USA / Passport Question

Heading to Boston for two months this summer and staying with friends, my passport is in date until 2013, got it in 03. It's not one of those new passports that have the chip.

Im getting mixed stories from people saying I'l need this new PP, others saying my own will be fine.

Also...Booking a holiday there for two months, immigration is likely to think I'l be working over there, so Im also getting mixed advice saying I should only book a two week holiday and change my return flight with Aer Lingus while Im there. Im told this is free of charge but will it be neccessary?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Ta.

Check Buffy's post in this thread.

You don't need a chip. It doesn't have to be a 'bio' passport. (yet)

My advise would be to never again ask any of your friends for help when travelling anywhere :)

    a) Your passport will probably be fine if it was issued in 2003
    b) You will be able to spend 2 months over there without people presuming that you'll be planning to work there.

If your passport has this on the back page, you should be fine.

See here for a photo example.

It won't be free to change your flight. Check out aerlingus.com for information on charges.

"Since 26 June 2005 the United States has commenced the requirement that all Irish passport holders must carry a machine-readable passport when travelling to the US."

What is a machine readable passport and do you have one?
As was said earlier your passport photo page should look like:
LINE 1: P COUNTRY LAST NAME << FIRST NAME < MIDDLE NAME <<<<<

LINE 2: PASSPORT NUMBER COUNTRY DOB<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Also a travel visa is good for 90 days so don't worry about that either.

Check this site for confirmation or here.

I got a new one even though mine was valid as it was pretty beat up and since US immigration has a reputation for being arses i decided to make it as hastle free as possible to get in and got a new one.
