Hi folks, I got Leopard disk with my new MBP and I don't really wanna put it on my MBP cause I don't like the interface that much.

Anyways, I would however like to put it on my Imac G5 I don't use that much but I only have OS X 10.3.9....

    Any ideas?

The disk supplied is likely tied to the MBP, so it is not possible to install it on any other model of Mac.

Its not, I installed it on a diff mac with 10.4 and it went fine, just wondering is there a way to update 10.3.9 up to the 10.4

My guess is that your Leopard disc is labelled "Upgrade DVD", right?

Boot up your MBP in Target Disk Mode, hook it up to the iMac G5 via Firewire, and start the Leopard installation from the iMac G5. The Upgrade DVD will look for a volume with 10.4 or later, finds it in the MBP and then proceed with installation.

    Should work.

EDIT: you do have the appropriate licence(s), don't you?

Are you sure that will work ? Will the install from a G5 to the Intel hard disk not install the wrong architecture for that machine ?

Huggles, just to confirm, you have installed 10.5 (which you dont like) on one Mac which had 10.4 and you now wish to install on a G5 with 10.3. What OS are you going to put on your new Intel machine?

The disk you got with your MBP is restore rather than install disk so I think Zener maybe correct.

Provided the disc referred to is a Upgrade DVD, it should work. At least for me - I've done it for a Leopard Upgrade DVD (for a MacMini shipped with a Tiger bundled disc) on a MacMini PowerPC 1.25GHz.

Like everyone else, I was skeptical at first. Imagine my surprise!

I have 10.4 on the MBP and a leopard dics came with it too, I tried it on the MBP but as its my primary machine I wanted to stick with 10.4.

Leopard dics? Does that come from a endangered species?

Maybe I didn't explain it properly. If I attach a PPC Mac in Target Mode to to an Intel Mac booted from a OSX Install disc and commence to install OSX won't the installer assume it is installing onto an Intel architecture rather than the PPC processor of the Mac in Target mode which will then attempt to boot an Intel kernel on a PPC Mac when it's restarted ?

ZEN, I've read your post to no avail...

OP wants to install Leopard on the iMac G5 (with 10.3 at the mo). The MBP is only there as a valid 10.5 volume for the Upgrade DVD to proceed with installation onto the iMac G5.

Or am I off the target...again?

My bad. I get you now, I thought you were suggesting something else completely.

Did the OP not say he had a new MBP with Leopard (10.5) ? I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just curious how the Upgrade disc would "Upgrade" what's already there. Also, if it is fooled, then will it not try to upgrade to the same architecture as on the MBP hard drive.

I was thinking of trying this a while back but came to the conclusion in my head that the 2 different CPU's wouldn't work out that way.

Like I said, I was surprised myself.

Cannot say more now - got a warning/PM from a mod for my reminder to OP re the 4-letter abbreviation "EULA" :( .
