It all depends on what you feel comfy with mate.

I got a Taylormade Driver and Rescue Wood as they felt right as soon as I picked them up in the pro shop. The Ping and cobra ranges aslo felt good so there are 3 decent brands for you to try out.

I brought them out to the course and drop my score straight away.

I bought myself a set of Wilson Staff PI5 irons yesterday (Nearly bought the Mizuno MP-57's). As per the previous poster I bought them purely based on looks. Have only hit about 20 balls with the demo 6 iron on the range. So im mad to get out today and play my first round with them!
But I think that a main criteria for purchasing clubs has to the confidence you get while looking down at the club during address. Make sure you compare lots of different clubs to each other.

I'm taking advantage of being in the US at the moment and am buying myself a set of Taylormade RAC OS2 irons. I've been swinging away with different sets in the various sports shops over here for the last 4 weeks and these seem to feel the best for me. Have been playing on and off for the last 5yrs, but I've no handicap. Never joined a club, but will hopefully sort that out this summer. I've also been trying loads of different drivers too and have decided to get the new R7. The way I see it, if I don't get the use out of the new clubs, I can sell at home and prob get close to what I paid. Looking forward to a good golfing summer!

Loads of good clubs around. You'll probably dismiss quite a few because of how they sit for you etc. Try to hit some back to back.

You can't really go wrong with any of the top makes. Ping and Taylormade are good clubs plus Callaway and Cobra. Don't forget Cleveland, Titleist, Wilson, Mizuno........ok try all of them.

Remember though that they need to work for you. I'd rather have an unheard of brand that work for me rather than the top of the range ones that I can't hit. A good pro will help you to get the right ones but don't go in with any favourites in mind.

For this kind of nonsense, it has to be mizuno.

    Seriously, stockdam is right.
Go a try a bunch of different sets, with different shafts, pick the one you hit the best, that suits your eye etc
........or else listen to group of unqualified "golfers/experts" claim that brand x is the greatest (of course it's mizuno)
