After reading another post on here I decided to ask your advice re: selling my car.... so, here goes!!

2002 E46 coupe - leather, mfsw, pdc, heated seats, etc etc etc - basically everything bar the cd player. Great condition, 75k on the clock. Full BMWSH, NCT, taxed for 6mths.

I'm well aware the current market for second hand cars is dead at the moment, so no need to point that out!

What would you recommend as an asking price? Not going to give it away, but would like to shift it...

It is not an M-sport - would a set of 18" M-Sport alloys help seal the deal?

I'd say maybe ~€18k if you've time. €16,900 if you want to sell it quick.

No offence, but most people buying a 318Ci won't know whether it's an Msport or not. If it has a decent set of alloys on it I wouldn't go changing just yet, unless they're very standard looking 16"s. Unless you're a car cleaning nut yourself, a good valet is well worth it for turning any tyre kickers into potential buyers.

I have to ask though, who the hell specced a car with leather heated seats, mfsw, pdc, etc. etc. etc. and omitted a CD player?

    +1

This is funny, was only talking to a friend yesterday who is selling one. He went into a dealer and they offered him 14k for it:eek:. It only has 44k miles on it and it is absolutely mint! Market must be gone that bad. Or else it's all this june craic.

    Hey Man

I'll be honest with ya, you are gong to have a very hard tme moving that car.

I sold my Mondeo Last year and it was 1 of the cheapest on carzone I was only looking for 9,500 for it with 38,000 miles on the clock and car was mint. it was registered in Dec 02

best offer was 7.5k, had to take it. Mitsubishi dealer offered me 3,500k on trade in for a new lancer.

These types of car are as common as muck (im not saying your car is muck im just saying BMW's are everywhere). And it is so hard to move them

I've bought an evo now and I know i will never be able to sell that car so ive made a commitment to keep it.

I see milltown says around 18k but im be prepared to accept offers close to 14/15k.

Its impossible to sell anything. these days :(

Thanks guys - I agree with everything that has been said:

    - Missing CD player - I know!! The car has all the extras but no CD player - strange. I was going to put a changer in the boot (it has the prep), but I just use my iPod with a cassette connector thing.
    - I am a bit of a cleaning nut, but did also have it valeted
    - Wheels are standard 16's - I have a friend who can get me 18" M Sports with tyres for €700... thought it might be a good investment if it helps me shift the car
    - I had it on at €18k but not offers - I'm thinking €16k might be more realistic :(

Well all the people importing cars from the UK hasn't exactly helped matters either. There is silly oversupply in the used car market plus the fact that most people are waiting until July at this stage before doing anything. The UK for the most part offers cars that are better looked after, of higher spec, and best of all bigger/more powerful engines. What I'm basically saying is that most cars here wouldn't hold a candle to those over there, so it's no wonder why so many people are hopping on the boat and buying over there.

New BMWs are coming down in price a lot because of the low emissions, which unfortunately hits owners of older BMWs the most because their cars are worth less then as a result.

Is this true? Been trying to judge the effect of the new rules on the value recently - but I have not been able to make sense of it!!

What effect do you think is likely and why?

    Thanks

it shouldn't have any effect either way as existing cars are already exempt from the new carbon tax rates if im not mistaken

I sold one similar to yours recently after 4 months for 14k euros and I was all out to sell it and I had to give 3 months warranty with it.:( Car sales are dying on their feet at the moment.

While the new laws don't affect the OP's car directly in so far as the fact that road tax will continue unchanged, a brand new version of the OP's car is going down in price by about €4k IIRC and it will only cost €290 to tax rather than the €590 the OP's car will cost to tax. Therefore his car will be a lot less desirable than before in the used car market.

As junkyard says though, selling second hand cars is like trying to flog a dead horse these days, and I seriously doubt things will improve till we have all the July price lists at the very earliest and most likely not until the start of next year.
