they're useless, potentially dangerous and incredibly undignified.

if you want to waste your money in such a fashion, I'd suggest cocaine.

Females brains brother, don't ask me how they work. Most likely thinking we could bond with 6 foot of Atlantic homecare garden hose deep in our rectums...

My arse needs a good cleaning, but tbh it wouldn't be worth it... it'd be like torture, getting that done...

Is there no little fairies I can hire to go into my ass with shovels and clear it out?

BTW, Penn and Teller discussed this on their show 'Bullsh*t'. I don't remember what the conclusion was.

I saw santa's colonic on Jackass no.3 I think. It looked seriously painful :eek::eek::eek:. I don't know if it's for me.

I wouldn't mind getting this done.

A girl i work with gets this done every couple of weeks and raves about it.
Among the benefits --- It makes you lose weight ---.

    Well doh!

If you really want your bowels cleaned without having a tube stuck up your arse and saving hundreds of Euro in the process, then go to your local health food store and buy a jar of Psyllium Husk. 1 glass of orange juice and 2 tablespoons of Psyllium Husk in a blender for 5 seconds, drink one of these every 8 hours. The Psyllium husk turns your poo into a jelly like substance and clears out all the ****e stuck to colon. Not pretty viewing but it works!!!

Clean Prep as well works wonders.

It's available over the counter and is taken by people about to undergo intestinal surgery.
    It's gets everything out.
Obviously the surgeon doesn't want to cut open something only to have ****e squirt into his face.

I've not had it done but I know a few who have.

The thing they all report is when you come out after the treatment you feel amazing, full of energy and what not. I guess it clears out all those toxins.

Probably the thing to do if you intend to become mega healthy and start a new diet, out with the old and in with new kinda thing.

I'm sort of tempted. Just don't want anyone sticking something up my rear end and yes I'd be concerned of something going wrong.

Also, I cannot see how having it done on a regular basis can be good for you. Once every few years maybe.

I would imagine it cleans out a great deal of beneficial intestinal flora, which surely can't be good for your immune system. I reckon you must feel great afterwards though.

Don't see how one would be painfull, they use plenty of lube :D

As for feeling great after one, surely it would be just like taking a big dump. Don't see how it would be clearing out any more "toxins" then would be moved through your intestines normally, its not like its full of little pockets of crap that don't get moved out.

"Hey Apu, have you got any of those potato chips that give you diarrhoea. I have to do a little spring cleaning."

Someone quoting the Simpsons on the internet?:eek:

I know a couple of people in their 50's who've had it done. They said they felt great after but I'd have serious reservations about getting a medical procedure done by a beautician. :(

How do you know they are potentially dangerous Mordance? Can you back this statement up at all

Are you a doctor or just a typical boards computer geek?

What might your doctor say if you asked about colonics?

Conventional medicine dismisses Colonic Hydrotherapy at three levels. It maintains that 'colonics' are not natural and therefore can not be the cure-all that supporters claim them to be. Doctors point out that the human body has its own perfectly adequate means of waste disposal.

Secondly, it argues that colonic irrigation removes the lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria that are essential to proper functioning of the colon. The electrolyte (mineral salt) balance is disturbed through the treatment and minerals are washed away.

The third argument levelled at the colonic irrigation is that a poorly trained practitioner could cause damage to the rectum through an incorrectly inserted scope. There is also concern that maintaining the water at too great a pressure could rupture the bowel.

To summarise, conventional medicine by and large argues that not only are 'colonics' of no benefit to total health, but that they also disrupt the workings of the colon and can even be dangerous.

To answer their first concern; The body has its own natural way of cleansing the bowl.

As I said above. It's a medical procedure yet it is typically performed by non-medical people.

The American Cancer Society say it's bad:
    http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ETO/content/ETO_5_3X_Colon_Therapy.asp

    Also Chirobase says(http://www.chirobase.org/06DD/gastro.html):
The process can be very uncomfortable, since the presence of the tube can induce severe cramps and pain. If the equipment is not adequately sterilized between treatments, disease germs from one person's large intestine can be transmitted to others. Several outbreaks of serious infections have been reported, including one in which contaminated equipment caused amebiasis in 36 people, 6 of whom died following bowel perforation. Cases of heart failure (from excessive fluid absorption into the bloodstream) and electrolyte imbalance have also been reported.
This has references to peer reviewed papers which might be too much science for some AH users.

Also re The Simpsons quote about potato chips which cause diarrhoea that actually happened:

I had it done and it was great. I didnt get the more common one though, similar to what was featured in Jackass as it seemed to demeaning for me. I went for the type where the practitioner tells you how to do it. I think there is only 1 clinic in ireland that does it this way although its more common in the US. Its not painful or uncomfortable and the tube is very small. I was able to read a book while it was all going on, or down, i should say!

I dont know about any real health benefits but i felt great afterwards for a day or 2. As for negative side effects, im sure like everything, in moderation.

    What nasties?

Plenty of information posted above about the risks of them and adverse affects of them, I've yet to see anywhere trustworthy say they are healthy.

    I said "apparently".

I havent gt an evidence either way.

Talk about people being taken in by current fads!!!

I never heard the like of it.

Here's the plan to keep the bowels nice and clean naturally

Take some fcuking exercise, eat some roughage, fruit, and some oily fish

For instance the Flutt takes a beaker of orange juice in the morning, then some porridge, then takes a walk, and always but always takes a Dunnes stores plastic bag in case of being caught short en route.

Many is the time our hero got barely one lousy kilometre before the bag was readied, the star inflated to max power, and a fine solid moist dump ploooshed into the bottom of the bag

Such relief and a feeling of lightness at having evacuated naturally is worth a lot.

Sometimes if the bolus is of specimen potential I may take her home for weighing, but generally just bury her in the sand dunes.

Forget yer colonic irrigation and stuff, yez are being had and screwed for money too I guess.

No frikken need for it .
