I have NTL digital basic channel, my tv is a philips widesceen model

When I watch all the main channels bbc, rte etc these are displayed in widescreen format. However when i switch to certain channels (ie channel 124 the living channel) these are displayed in 16:9 format. I know I can then use the TV remote control to switch to widescreen , but I reckon there must be a better way to fix this issue. I have looked at the TV setup and cannot see a way of always dispalying in widescreen mode.

Is there a setting on the NTL (Pace ) box or the tv I can configure to always display in widescreen

    Thanks Folks

What you are seeing is the way it is supposed to be. Living does not broadcast in widescreen. Your tv however should be able to distort the picture permanently.

Most TVs have an 'autoformat' option that switches mode constantly i.e. if you display watch a 4:3 (normal) picture it will be square image and a 16:9 will be displayed as wide.

Usually if you select WIDE on your TV it will stretch the 4:3 images to fit!
