I'm seeing an increasing number of bills and posters around Galway, you know the score, glossy cardboard saying Yes to the Lisbon Treaty, stickers for Palestine and photocopys for No to the Lisbon treaty and Animal rights.

I'm curious as to the legality of this.

Can anyone just go around sticking up a photocopy on a lampost or is there a permit required under Irish law or what?

Its called fly posting and is covered by the Litter Acts. There are exemptions for elections, referendums and public meetings, but even these have restrictions on time and proximity.
