I have a paypal account and i was selling something through a different site,i was not sure if it was allowed on adverts as it was a joblot.

Someone from australia has offered me asking + 50 euro for express post. I replied saying how do you intend to pay and she said paypal, send me your ID.

I only have my credit card set up but is it possible to be scammed through giving your paypal ID i.e your email address?

Sorry for ignorance i dont have a clue i hadnt thought i would have international interest, i paid someone here on adverts through paypal and didnt give it a second thought and he willingly gave his ID, so is it safe??

    Thanks in advance

all they need is your paypal email address to send money

Make sure your email has a good password

The email address you use with Paypal is the only thing a person needs to send money as mentioned. Also before you can see the details of the payment and if the seller has a confirmed account if you think something is up.

It's just an email address, and from that point of view, it's as safe as any email is. The scam could be that the buyer is using a stolen card, or hacked Paypal account to pay you. You send the item, and then when the account owner finds out what's happening and claims back through the credit card, Paypal will take the money back from you.

From a sellers point of view, Paypal is always a risk, as you never truly know that a buyer is who they claim to be.

Thanks for replies. I rang paypal and they said the only thing to worry about really is firstly to make sure i check my account to make sure they have indeed put the money in before i post and also when i post to insure it and get a tracking number in case the person claims the item never arrived.

I thought it was suspicious to offer asking without haggling (i did say or nearest offer) and without even seeing items. I asked would they not like to see items first i am still awaiting a reply. Its various cheap costume jewellery so they should really want to see it before spending 650 euro on it?

It does sound a bit strange, the problem could be as mention before that they do chargeback after a few days claiming they never got, item not as advertice or something on those lines. Can you not ask him to do a bank transfer or use a screw service (not idea how good they are).
