Probably the wrong place to rant, but I hate gardening. Perhaps some of you keen gardeners can explain the attraction. Yesterday I spent 3 hours wrestling with a manky box hedge(not even mine,it's my neighbours), picking up weeds, cutting grass. I ended up with scratched arms and broken fingernails. Ok, I admit it looks well now, but it will all have to be done again in a few weeks.....
And after all my hard work I still have a 3 foot pile of clippings and stuff to get rid of. At least when you paint a room, you clean up afterwards and don't have to do it again for a year.

A box hedge that grows that quickly!
I'd say you should start taking cuttings from that buxus, as they will be worth a lot to gardeners looking for a quick growing sculpting hedge.
If it works out you will be minted and can then call in a gardener for all the pruning and planting you like. :p

Buy a compost bin - use grass clippings etc to make compost and sell it :)

Buy strong gardening gloves (ones with leather) and then you avoid getting scratched.

Some people love planting flowers (my wife for example) and get real enjoyment from the results. I however could easily live without flowers in my garden. I'm not a keen gardener by any means, I like the look of pretty flowers but resent the effort required to get to that stage.

I am however very keen on growing fruit and vegetables. You get a serious reward for this. Firstly you know where your veg came from and how it was grown, secondly it tastes a million times better than supermarket stuff and thirdly you save cash. Last year I didn't buy a single tomato from June to August :)

If you want a garden that's easily manageable, try dividing your garden into sections. Generate a rockery with suitable plants that only need the odd clipping. Get some planters and fill them with plants. Buy heathers and small shrubs. Heathers have lots of great colours but don't require much effort :) If you are going down the flowers route, don't get plants that require the bulbs to be lifted and stored over winter. Ask in any decent garden centre for advice on plants that require minimum work :)
