The following definitions are for informational purposes only. We did not invent the terms or their meanings. These are the general terms used by paranormal investigators everywhere. We put them here to help people understand what they are reading when they go to these web sites. This is by no means a complete guide but hopefully it will lead you to a better understanding of our terminology.

Apparitions-A usually unsuspected, often times sudden appearance of a deceased person or animal, often appearing incomplete or mostly transparent, pictures and sightings of apparitions are rare but highly sought after.
    Anomalies-Deviation from the norm.
Cold Spot-An area that is noticeably colder than the surrounding environment. Paranormal Investigators use infrared thermometers to determine the exact temperature change. These cold spots are believed to be caused by spirits trying to manifest by drawing energy from the air therefore resulting in a cold void that can usually be felt by someone and then measured with some degree of accuracy.
Demonologist-Person who studies demons, negative spirits and devils.
Ectoplasm-An immaterial or ethereal substance believed to surround or come from a spirit or other supernatural being.
EMF Meter-Electro Magnetic Field tester. Used by most paranormal Investigators to determine, by disturbances in the electro magnetic field, whether or not paranormal activity may be occurring. The higher readings being indicative of activity.
EVP-Electronic voice phenomenon, believed by some to be the voices of spirits, recorded on digital voice recorders, and tape recorders etc...These voices are captured through the use of electromagnetic fields, and are usually not heard by the persons doing the recording.
Ghost-A visible/invisible disembodied soul of a human or animal, usually appearing much as they did before death, spirit of someone who has remained on earth after death, sometimes try to draw attention to their presence by moving objects, making noise, interfering with electrical appliances, leaving coins around, etc.
Ghost Hunt-Going to a place where a ghost has not been reported in the hopes of finding ghost, spirits or other paranormal activity.
Ghost Investigation-This is where we go out to a suspected or reported haunting to get evidence to determine if the haunting is caused by a ghost or natural occurrences, in some cases even hoaxes. Here we hope to capture images, recordings, evps etc...

Haunting-Paranormal phenomenon occurring usually over a period of time, such as ghostly apparitions, smells, noises, disembodied voices etc.
Intelligent Haunting-A haunting where the spirit or ghost seems to interact with the surroundings and the people around the haunting. A spirit that is responsive to external stimuli.
Orb-A sphere of energy, believed to be soul forms, energy of spirits trying to materialize, sometimes caught on film or video.
Ouija-A Board used to communicate with spirits. There are several types of boards used. The most common, is the wood Board currently being made by Parker Brothers. Some consider this a game, while others take it very seriously.
Paranormal-Not explainable by science or natural causes.
Poltergeist-Noisy and or mischievous ghost. Generally poltergeist activity will include but is not limited to knocking, rapping, dishes or other objects being thrown, objects disappearing, loud voices, and bed shaking.
Religious Demonologist-Person who is normally a member of the clergy.A lay Religious Demonologist does the same job but is not ordained, but can perform the same duties with special permission by the Bishop. The main difference between a Demonologist and Religious Demonologist is that the Demonologist studies Demonology while the Religious Demonologist helps people to be rid of them.
Residual Haunting-Believed to be a psychic imprint of a scene that keeps repeating itself. In this type of haunting no interaction with the "ghost" occurs. This would be more like watching a movie clip of the past.
Shadow Ghost-Believed to be an entity that unlike a spirit, appears dark, shadow like, sometimes referred to as a phantom, usually seen as human in form and shape, some believe these shadow creatures are evil or demonic, they are becoming a hot topic of conversation and speculation among ghost hunters as sighting are being reported more frequently.
Spirit-The soul or vital force in humans and animals, sometimes seen after a person or animal dies.
Vortex or vortice-Believed by many to be a Portal to another dimension, which spirits use to appear. Some believe that these Vortexes sometimes show up in photographs as funnel shaped anomalies or translucent clouds. Just remember to watch those camera straps.

thats a really good post, but could you edit it a bit so its easier to read?

I got lost a couple of times because of the lack of spacing, or perhaps some bold font on each of the acronyms/titles?

    anyways, cheers for the post
