So, we're less than a month away. Anyone getting excited about this?

For me, this is a bigger game than GTA 4, and the reason why I bought my PS3 console last month.

This is the game that should really show off what the PS3 is capable of, despite Kojima san saying that the Cell processor was limited, therefore limiting what they were able to achieve with this game.

That being said, all the footage i've seen so far looks amazing, so i genuinely cannot wait for its release.

Sister bought me back a dualshock from the states as well, so i'm all set.

See my username. I have looking forward this since MGS2 (the continuation of the story...) so I already have my LE ordered from PLAY.com

I agree though I think he was talking more from an ambition thing than anything else. I mean he said something similar about the PS2 way back when, iirc.

TBH I think he just wanted this to be perfect and was peeved to be limited in any way at all! I mean he was saying the 25GB of Blu-Ray space wasn't enough!

Did anyone read the ign previews? They have actually already played the game but give away very little plot.. kinda looks like kojima mite really finish up on the main games after this one but maybe the franchise will continue under someone else!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,229 ✭✭✭gloobag

This game'll be the first major system seller for the PS3, and will shift a lot of units for Konami too. So, I sincerely doubt that this is the last MGS game ever. Also, Kojima has said that he'd love to see the franchise live on. Plus, this isn't the first time that Kojima has said it's his last Metal Gear game he'll work on either ;)

Aye, getting a bit stoked over this. Think i'll use gamenash for this too.

Also, anyone have anything on the rumours the original MGS will be in this? Video up pon IGn showing Snake dreaming about the opening Arctic base of MGS... Possibly another (or unused) April fools?

No one knows for sure what this is all about, but I've read, in more than one place, that there are parts of the game where Snake is reminiscing about the past, and if you press a certain button at the right moment during this, you get to play the flashback mission.

I'll see if I can dig up a link.

Must say MGS4 wasnt on my list of must get games for the ps3, but was in gamestop today and they had a video of gameplay. I was blown away, i am no longer gonna get drakes fortune but wait for MGS4.

GTA4 and MGS4 within a month of each other, Sony knows how to seperate me and my hard earn cash :D

I'd still at least rent Drake's Fortune. I mean, I'm still going back to it! Must have clearly four or five times now! And still the statue puzzle flummoxes me!

Well, if MGS4 truly is the end of Solid Snake, it'll be interesting to see who you end up playing as in MGS5. Raiden? Meryl? Or maybe some other clone of Big Boss that no one knew of: Soluble Snake maybe??? :D

As in rent it out like a DVD movie? :D If there's multiple 90 minute cut scenes they'll have to let you save before and even during the scenes to make it practical. Imagine it coming just after a big boss fight but you have to stop playing after 30 minutes for some reason. It'd be a game-breaker without some inbuilt system to deal with little problems like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

i don't understand why that would make the game a rent game.. why rent a game you know will hae a lot of long cutscenes in... you'll never finish it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,345 ✭✭✭Somnus

Jesus 90 minutes... I'm a big MGS fan but that seems a bit long in fairness. I wonder about the practicality as well... If you dont get much time for playing games then I'd say it'd get a bit annoying only playing for a little while and having to go through the cutscenes

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,249 ✭✭✭✭Kinetic^

Pre-ordered this today in Game. Then I heard about the 90 minute cut scene. Thank god you can skip or pause them, the ****ing effort of sitting there through the whole thing.

    Some info..

Dutch mag confirms custom soundtracks for MGS 4

The Dutch Official Playstation magazine has reviewed MGS 4 and given it a score of 96/100. In the review, the magazine revealed that the game will let you "play music on the portable mp3 player snake has from the PS3's hard disc."

    quote:

    Dark_Vendetta of the metalgearsolid.org forums:

The dutch edition of the official playstation magazine just published there review in the newest issue.

They gave it a 96 (same they gave to GTA4, I don't think any other PS3 game got that yet).
    Graphics: 18/20
    Music/Sound: 20/20
    Gameplay: 58/60

Positive points: Worthy finale of the series, perfect camera, controls and sound, epic storyline, weapons
Negative points: Graphics could be a bit better, story too complex for people who are not into the series

Stuff I found interesting (maybe spoilers in here):
    - You can play music on the portable mp3 player snake has from the PS3's hard disc.
    - They couldn't say anything about the story we didn't know yet (had to sign a paper), but they said that you should get the game already just for the story.
    - Through the game, Snake acts like a soldier who welcomes death. He has a 'death wish'.
    - They ended their first playthrough with 300 kills.
    - The bossfight against octopus takes place in a South American labratory. She can disguise herself as several objects and figures.
    - They discribe Raging Raven as a human bomber who constantly takes away your stragatical advantages by destroying your places to hide.
    - Crying Wolf is very fast and has a rail gun that can could shoot snake to a pile of ash really quick.
    - Besides the B&B unit, there is also the chance to finally finish of some very hard to defeat enemies from the previous games.
    - Cutscenes are amazing, they especially mention the ending epilogue which is (litteraly translated) brainbreaking.
    - After the first playthrough, some new goodies and new but extremely expensive parts become available in Drebin's shop.
    - There is again a return of several special gameplay and story aspects from the previous games. They especially occur during the return to Shadow Moses Island.
    - Completely original, but not a 100% perfect, is actually only Snake's mission in an unnamed Eastern Europe country.
    - The story goes about a choise between the systematical 'force to' (couldn't find a better word to translate this (opleggen)) order or to keep the free will in every individual citizen or soldier.
    - They think MGS4 is a bullseye as a game. GTAIV may have a longer playability, Assassins Creed may have better graphics but on many aspects MGS4 is coming out. The suspens of the story, the perfect controls, the amazing sound directions and of course the emotion, it's hard to find all this in one game.
    - The biggest power of the game is the biggest negative point, if you liked the long, complex story of the previous MGS's, you will love MGS4. But if you didn't like it, you won't like MGS4 purely as an action game (there are better games for that).

For places like Xtravision, GAME and Gamestop, I'd say they will sell pre-orders only. You might be able to walk into Tesco and pick one up though.
