Colin Farrell finished?

I dont think hes finished, he's over the whole bad boy, hard drinker phase so there's not so much interest in him maybe. Also he's getting older so it can be hard for actors to find good parts. He's prob just trying to re-invent himself and strech as an actor. He's filming for Triage at the moment and looking very skinny!

Anyway, I dont think he's washed up by any means.

I think the question is did he ever start?

    I've already seen Casandra's Dream.

It certainly is a pretty flat film but I don't think you can really fault Farrel's performance in it... in fact he's actually probably the best thing about the film... mainly because his character goes through so much in the film even if you do feel like smacking the fecker.

But it's definitely Woody Allen who dropped the ball on that film... I really had high hopes that Allen was back on form after Match Point that I found to be pretty good. But Scoop and now Casandra's Dream have both been very poor.

Anyway... I've always found Farrel to have a very likable presence on screen. Although I was amazed at how quickly he seemed to appear in a hell of a lot of very big Hollywood releases.

I really don't think Alexander did his career any favours though. But I'm looking forward to see what he does in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

In fairness, Phone booth, Tigerland, The Recuit, SWAT, Minority Report, Intermission, all good film imo and good performances from Colin. Not to mention 'Bullseye' in Daredevil! (just for the peanut scene, the rest of it was sh!t):D

yes but we probably have a biased opinion because he's (as the irish tabloids call him) "Our Col"

The bigger the budget, the bigger the turkey - with the exception of Minority Report.

SWAT, Miami Vice and Alexander have all been big-budget flops -if not commercially, then certainly critically.

Personally I enjoyed The Recruit, SWAT and Phone Box for what they were, although his best work has been in Irish films. If he was to make more of them I'd be very happy.

Unfortunately no. I've heard nothing but great reports though. Comes out on DVD in July. Nothing available to 'acquire' either except for badly dubbed Polish versions. Dyin to see it.

In Bruges is Colins best film in ages, fantastic stuff, very un-pc and with brilliant acting by everyone concerned.
The pity is that more people haven't seen it.
It has been released to much critical acclaim here in Ireland as well as the UK.

As for his movie choices, one would have thought that the leading role in an Oliver Stone picture was a great move, unfortunately the editing let the whole thing down, SWAT only suffered because of its pursuit of a 12 cert, again, the editor had a field day cutting out any violent action.

The guy is still young, can act, again see In Bruges, and we can only hope a suitable vehicle pops up.

To give a parallel, Jamie Fox has had his fair share of turkeys, Stealth and Miami Vice to name two, but because of Ray no ones talking of his careers demise.

He can act, but methinks he has a problem picking movies that suit his range (and that don't suck so bad). "In Bruges" shows that he has a particular style of acting that suits him down to the ground. He's not an A-lister, but that's not to say he can't take top billing in a production, he just needs to be more canny about picking roles that fit him.

I've been waiting to see Pride and Glory for a while now. This movie was wrapped months ago and was previewed already. It stars Farrell, Ed Norton and Jon Voight. There's a single review on IMDB which is positive but the movie has been put back for release next year in the states.
This smells of a stinker yet the cast and the review, granted just one review give the feeling that this could be a classic.
I also feel Farrell is a very good actor. For me his best role to date is in Tigerland. He was good in Miami Vice but the movie itself was rubbish which surprised me as I am a fan of Michael Mann's movies.

Did anyone else read that article in the opening post?

The interviewer comes across as a right twat.

there have been plenty of a list actors who have been in turkeys yet none of them are at risk of being *finished*

On Farrell himself...he's likeable (not lickable *blitzy*) on screen and I have rarely pointed him out as the fault with any of the turkeys he's been in.

My only complaint was that I kept thinking he sounded like dougel from father ted when I say In Bruges

In Brudges is nothing special. Yes, compared with most Irish movies it's above average but nothing to get impressed with.

a bit of an attitude in that article in the Guardian, which is unusual for the Guardian.

Allen is a disaster for at least a decade now in IMO, maybe longer! McGregor is far more in a worrying position career wise than Farrell i reckon.

I thought Cassandra's Dream was a fine film much better than most of the crap that makes it to cinema these days.

As for the Farreller I don't think he has ever had one big decent film.

I think as long as hollywood is looking for a bad boy, hard drinking ,good looking (ok reasonable looking :D) irish dude he will always have a role in films . Maybe straight to dvd like a lot of others

He might just be wanted for his irish accent roles even .

He should have got the role of the dead dude in PS: I love you. That would have given his career the kickstart it needed.

    +1 Absolute tosser.

Acting can be a very long career. I can't see him being finished. He's a good actor imo and I reckon he's just going through a lean spell. He just needs one good role to get back 'up there'.

    He'll be back.

Farrel is fine. I don't think Woody Allen films are the realm of C-listers and in fairness, his worst film, Alexander, wasn''t his fault at all. As someone who has studied that stuff for 4 years now the direction and script behind it was shocking and Colin cut a pretty decent Alexander

I thought some of his one liners in bruges were funny .

Spoilers might prevent me saying which ones but one was somthing to do with a blank gun ,

ok '' course you cant see out of one eye, i just shot you with a blank '' :D

I watched Scoop the other night. Absolutely dreadful. Match Point was horrible as well.

I thought Melinda and Melinda was excellent (despite slightly irritating concept of people telling the story as comedy/tragedy in the first 5 mins). He's always been a bit hit and miss, I'm just hoping he does another hit soon. When he gets it right it's wonderful.

Colins been in good movies and utter stinkers. So many of them were disasters at the box office and he kept still getting work so I'd say it'd take alot more than this to get rid of him.

Jesus he nearly looks worse than Bale did.

I've seen Cassandra's Dream and I liked it. Very different than any other Woody Allen movie I've seen. The article in the Guardian went way overboard.

What was really funny in Cassandra's Dream was one of the opening credits - there were two actors listed on screen with the words "In Alphabetical Order" above!

He's the latest Ben Affleck. A good actor whom took a number of blockbusters before reclaiming credibility through a number of smaller films.

Two year ago the words Ben Affleck were nearly always followed by "Washed up". Now he's a critically acclaimed director whose film Gone Baby Gone should have been in contention for best picture at this years Oscars.
