    PRESS RELEASE: METRO NORTH

    A key milestone for Metro North - which will link St.Stephen’s Green with Swords in North County Dublin - has been reached with the issuing to the four bidding consortia of the tender documents. The consortia are a mix of international and Irish companies. Metro North is a PPP project and the bidders will be asked to tender for the design, build, funding, maintenance and operation of the line. Tenders are expected at the end of the year with best and final offers being sought following the granting of a railway order for Metro North in 2009. RPA anticipates making an application for a railway order later this year and the contracts awarded will be subject to the terms of the railway order.

    Metro North is a high capacity light metro system running in a mix of “bored” and “cut and cover “tunnels beneath the city centre and Dublin Airport, elsewhere Metro North will run on elevated structures or at ground level. The journey time between St. Stephen’s Green and the Airport will be in the region of 20 minutes and from St. Stephen’s Green to Swords it has been estimated to be in the region of 30 minutes.

    Please see the attachment for the list of consortia.

    For further information contact;
    Tom Manning, PR Manager, RPA on 087 410 0199.
