Chocolate Fountains

    Hi,

My friend is getting married this summer and is thinking of getting a chocolate fountain for her wedding reception.

I've checked out a few websites of Irish companies that hire them and they seem to be pretty pricey - around €650 plus.

Has anyone had a chocolate fountain that their wedding? I'd love to get some feedback especially if anyone could recommend a good (reasonably priced) company.

    Thanks!

Arent these a bit of a no no? Saw a guy on TV a while ago saying they are generally never cleaned and the pipes carrying the chocolate around and around are manky :(

I went to a friends wedding in the UK two years ago and they had a chocolate fountain. It was fabulous - such a talking point, great fun. They had it in the corner of the room and people were going over and helping themselves all the time. (Be warned of chocolate splashes - especially on men's ties and lady's dresses). But they had big trays lined up next to the fountain - with strawberries, melon, banana pieces, also, marshmallows and big biscuits. They also had large wooden skewers, so you could skewer whatever you wanted to dip in chocolate. But it really was fun.

On a different note, I was at a wedding last weekend and the Bride and Groom hired an icecream van - so the guests all went outside to "Mr. Softee" for our 99 cones, with rasberry sauce. Again, great fun.

So I would say a big yes to the chocolate fun - and it's a real ice breaker for strangers - what better way to bond then over chocolate. J

Now that is a pretty cool thing to do if you have the weather for it. I would go for that over a chocolate fountain even though I'm a chocoholic.....

Chocolate fountains are usually pretty expensive. I have never seen one that was like woah reasonable.

Don't try to go cheap. I've seen people try to save money on them, but then they ran out of the dipping fruit early on. All the strawberries go first, then the melon, and so on. Then, it turns from something neat, to something that ran out of food half way through the night.

Be careful for ties, dresses, or any clothes.

Otherwise, if you do it right, it is totally worth it.

Worth it. Worth it. Worth it.

Thanks for the replies! The ones that I've been looking up do seem to be a bit expensive but I think it would be good fun and besides everyone likes chocolate!

The Mr Softee idea would be cool too!

Never had one at a wedding but had one at a friend's 21st where she had 40 or so guests. Important thing is to get small chunks of fruit so people don't double dip and to use quality chocolate.

It's messy (floor will get covered with drips), but it's tasty, fun and an icebreaker. If I was getting married in the morning I'd rent one :)
