    Morning all.
This might be in the wrong board but I thought I'd run it past ye. I'll be doing (hopefully) the Wicklow 200 cycle (200km over Wicklow mountains) in June. Have half an idea to do the Dublin marathon in November, but have never run properly before. Would it be doable? I imagine i'll have a reasonable fitness base after the wicklow, but would changing from cycling to running a marathon be doable in 5-6 months?
    cheers.

I went from nothing to the Dublin Marathon in just over 5 months. I started in May and the Marathon is in October.

It is definitely doable but you need to have a plan. You should check out Hal Higdon's website for training programmes.

You should also try the Adidas Race Series just to set yourself goals along the way and to get used to race day and running in a crowd.

It is a different kettle of fish, running compared to cycling, so be prepared for aches and pains, and some niggles because running is a lot harder on your joints then cycling.

    Best of Luck

cheers comer. that's what i imagined, it would be a matter of having sore bones and muscles instead of just the latter. my bike was out of commission for one weekend and so i substituted a run for my training; big difference.
EDIT: that hal higdon page is class, thanks a million.

zork, its easily doable. I cycle quite a bit, and when i say that i mean stretch lycra and carbon bike, not a cycle to work thing. I did the marathon in 2004. I started training in April, did the pheonix park races during the summer. Fitness wise I had plenty in the tank for the marathon but I did end up tearing a knee ligament and pulling out at the 16mile mark.

that's reassuring, although i don't like the sound of my knee going bang two thirds of the way through. that's a bummer, hard luck.
