    Hi All,

I am planning on kitting out my kitchen with all hoover appliances (fridge, washer and dryer) i was wondering if this is a good make and if anyone knows of a good place in cork to get them. I have heard a lot of horror stories about the harvey normans, etc....

    Rgds

Yes, EDI ended distribution near the end of last year. They're now distributed directly by Hoover Candy from UK.

As for the Hoover Candy brand.... I would go with what knighted_1, the likes of Bosch (or Siemens), or if those are too expensive, Zanussi (electrolux) or Whirlpool...

    Hiya,
I'm buying appliance in the coming month and asked a friend of mine who bought a washing machine recently what he bought, etc. etc.

He told me he had heard some bad things about Harvey Normans also and I think it was about their prices not being too good.

He told me he got an Indesit washing machine from Soundstore (in Tralee, I assume there's one in Cork) and he said it was the best priced one he could find and it has a Half an Hour wash, which is what I would like.

What impressed me more was their Customer Service. He said a few months after using it all the lights were flashing on it and it worked fine. He rang Soundstore on a Monday and was told someone would be out to him on Thursday (he lives half way up the mountain about 15 miles outside Tralee). He was expecting the "Eircom" treatment!!!!! But lo and behold Thursday morning the repair guy rang him early to get directions to his house and he was sorted within 2 hours, at no charge. I'm going to buy an Indesit Washing Machine next week, in Soundstore.

indesit are sh#t they are basically a hotpoint on the inside -they are also the cheapest

if you want a 30 min 30 degree wash try a bosch

and if your friend had to wait 4 days for service ,that is way to long

    Knighted_1, thanks a million.
I'll keep what you said in mind and look at the Boschs. I'm also waiting for a reply from Consumers Choice magazine to fully analyse all brands.
Wow, I did'nt think there was going to be any reply to my thread. It's my very first time at boards.ie and I've never done something like this before. You will see that from the fact that my reply to the first thread is posted twice. How do I delete the first one???
Another question for you: how do you know so much about washing machines? Are you in the Trade? Or have you had a bad experience with Indesit?

I believe it's nearly all the other way around now - all Hotpoint washers are Indesit on the inside.

I do agree that they're not the best out there. They're cheap for a reason.

Ah right. You could be right indeed.

It's just that more recently I've noticed the control panels on Hotpoint machines to look very similar to the Indesit range. The tumble dryers I'm pretty sure are still all Hotpoint, just rebadged for Indesits, so maybe same applies for their WMA's too.

Sorry for taking this thread on a bit of a off-topic slant!

From my experience of white goods you get what you pay for. Last year I purchased a condensor drier (cost 320euro) from a manufacturer mentioned above. Had to get service person in after 2 weeks as it was tripping electricity board. Service guy said it was a "feature" of the appliance if wet clothes were left in appliance for a length of time. I immediately returned item to store and purchased an Electrolux for 1.5 times the price. It is better built, larger drum and an B rated (good for a drier) electricty consumption appliance and comes with a 5yr parts and labour warranty.

FYI Hotpoint / Indesit / Creda & Cannon are all the exact same companies. Essentially Merloni bought Indesit who in turn bought Hotpoint.

Anyways different factories make different white goods. For example in fridges would be made in Peterborough, UK. All the exact same and only difference being a badge and the price people pay for the "brand" ;)

Add Ariston to that list too. All companies now fall under the "Indesit Group" umbrella.

Avoid them at all costs. Zanussi products are around the same price point and are much better. But if you have a bit of extra cash, Bosch are by far the best value for your money for quality products.

(siemens/neff/miele are not worth the extra tbh, Bosch ftw)

lollers yes them too. it's been a while since I worked for them now :o

TBH GrumPy , all brands are about as reliable as each other. Each brand usually has some little niggly flaw in their designs that causes some kind of problem some serious , some not so serious.

Well I sell white and brown goods for a living, so although it is just my opinion, it's pretty good advice. ;)
