Football injury - best course of action?

I know you guys cannot give medical advise and I am not looking for it.

A few months ago, I hurt myself playing football. It wasn't unlike other times that I hurt myself while playing footie so I figured resting it for a few weeks and seeing how I feel then would do harm - afterall, it has always worked out before.

Problem is, going by the brief kickabout I had tonight, this time it has not healed at all. The pain seems to be deep in my left hip. I would liken the pain to feeling like a needle being inserted into the joint. The pain also extends down the front of my thigh, the inside of my thigh below what I have always suppossed to be my groin and sometimes my lower back.

Anyway, I obviously need to get this checked out. Would the best course of action be to first of all make an appointment with my GP who will then refer me to a physio or would it make sense just to go straight to a physio?

I have been doing some research online and it is extremely difficult to identify what it might be. One thing that seems certain is that a scan of some sort will be required in order to identify the issue :|

    And skip the GP/doc visit?

Skip the doctor, straight to physio, they;ll send you to the doc anyway if you need it.
