    Hi,
I am thinkning of fly to Zadar in Croatia this summer for my hols. However there does not appear to be a lot of accomodation in Zadar. Has anyone stayed there before.
A possible plan is couple of nights in Zadar, bus to Split (assuming there is a bus), couple of nights in Split, 4-5 nights on islands, back to Zadar for a night and home.
Any ideas/experience with flying into Zadar?

    Hey Albob,

Did you go yet? I might have some useful info for you as I'm going there in a couple months.

No, decided against it this year as I found it difficult to get info, and did not have the time to really look into it. Going to italy instead. Would def be interested next year if you find it a good experience though. I was in Dubrovnik years ago and loved it.

Hmmm I started a thread about one of islands of Croatia on Friday myself but got no replies ha.

They appear to be somewhat of a non-entity really. May give Pag a miss as it seems to be more of a headache than anything else.

I'm heading over myself in three weeks, for a week. I went there last year, but flew into Pula with Ryanair. Ryanair have now ceased this route from Dublin, but you can still get to Pula from Stanstead.

There's three of us heading over, and after scouring the suronding area's, it seems the best way to get to Istria, (which is where I was last year) is to fly into nearby Venice. Flights were very cheap, and its only a 2.5hr drive down into Croatia.

All in all the total cost for the week, has worked out at €280, thats including, flights, accommodation, and hire of a car for a week.

We're going to be staying in a small town called Rovinj. I know people over there, who I met last year, so thats a major plus.

Croatians, I thought last year, were extremely friendly, and it is one of the most relaxcing places I have ever been.

    hope this helps....

where would you recommend a young couple to go? which cities/islands?

I was in Croatia last year and loved it.

Depending on what you are after, I'd suggest island hopping. We found accommodation easy to find, you can just land on an island, and you'll immediately find old ladies advertising accommodation. Usually in a private house, very reasonable priced. There is not much sandy beaches, more rocky ones, with real clear blue water. Food and nightlife were great in any areas we were in.

If then want a break from the islands and still have time, Plitvice National Park is supposed to be spectular. I wasn't overly impressed with Zagreb (the capital), I suggest give that a miss and stay on the coast.

Sailing is really popular in Croatia, if you'd like that sort of a holiday. Alternatively you could rent a car and drive up/down the coast and get a ferry back. Just remember it is a big country, a journey to Split would be a half day spent travelling.

Sorry for such a generic reply, if you want to ask specific questions, maybe I could be more help.

my friend said about the old ladies and staying in their houses...i dunno if thats a great option when your with your GF. would be fine for a lads holiday bu i reckon we will slum it in a hotel:D

thanks for the reply,so are cars cheap to rent there. renting a car sounds a good option and then we could go around where ever we wanted. are the roads good or bad?and are the local drivers crazy/drunk:confused:

Another thread hijack - a mate and I (with hopefully at least one other friend) are heading to Dubrovnik on August 22nd (a Friday) and home on September 1st (a Monday), other than the flight we have no plans. Any suggestions / itinerary for some lads in their early 30s who want to see some sights, do a bit of partying and take it fairly handy?

just back from there.flew into zadar a week ago....we had no real plans till we landed....hired a car and headed down to split....2 nights there in a great hostel...had some mad nights.....crowds were mostly foriegn tourists but a fair load of canadians and aussies were up for the laugh...its a nice town with a great seafront.

got a ferry to hvar after...probly the highlight of the hols....place was roastin...great restraunts and clubs around...the people there are stunnin...check out carpe diem....another day at the beach...went bannana boatin and back to this club built in an old monastry...

never made to the famous beach in brac but headed for vodice instead......great spot but almost no english speakin visitors there .....mostly eastern europeans but some class beach bars near hotel olympia......went jetskiing....the best craic ever.

up to zadar for the final night...stayed in the old city and was impressed by the historic town(not that we learned anything about it)

was actually impressed by the country....away better than greece anyways......we went at the height of haigh season and found most of the accomodation over there....
