Ok so breakfast rolls are different around the country. for me it's sausage, rasher and white pudding with a smidge of red sauce and butter. but there are different opions like:

    Black pudding: not for me
    Beans: too messy
Fried egg: Sounds good it theory but still havent been brave enough
Onions: To close to vegetables imo
    Mushrooms: No thanks

So brothers, what else have you seen on rolls and/or what do you like on yours?

I don't go for a traditional breakfast roll, I must admit. I get a large roll (Obviously) with a ncie bit of butter and about four or five sausages crammed in. That's it. Although I am coming around to the idea of white pudding and rashers.

    That's a sausage roll brother

For me, sausages, rashers, fried egg, white pudding and hash browns and brown sauce with plenty of butter

Nothing wrong with that. If it's meaty it's tasty

for me it has to be:

    sausages
    bacon
    eggs
    white pudding
    hash browns
    lashings of brown sauce

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,801 ✭✭✭✭Gary ITR

Right you are brother but it's a roll for breakfast so kind of a breakfast roll.

And it has to be a large baguette, not too crispy but definitely not too soft.

Why do so many people say 'red sauce' in stead of ketchup these days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

No idea. I know over here every time I say 'ketchup' I get a blank look from whoever's serving me and have to resort to 'red sauce'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭nkay1985

    On the contrary!!!

It was always red sauce over here but when we started watching Aerican TV mroe, the word ketchup became more widely used. So you'll find older people saying red sauce more than young people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

But it says ketchup on the packaging... I'd never have any reason to call it anything else.

Red sauce sounds like some generic non-ketchup related product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

butter sossies egg rahser puddin and a bit of ketchup and crush black pepper...oh and jaysis u can't do it without a can of coke :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

I used to have breakfast rolls quite a bit last year... it was about the only thing that the canteen in work was able to produce in a competent manner...

I don't eat them any more though and I've inexplicably lost lots of weight.

I think I would have had my breakfast roll with 2 rashers, 2 sausages, a fried egg, hash browns and black pudding with some HP Sauce*.... and sometimes beans too.

*Note I buy all my sauces on hire purchase.

Yep I agree with ya. Just saying it how it is!

Sausage rashers and Black Pudding. Ketchup and butter/or/mayo. They always manage to mess up the mushrooms somehow: YOU HAVE TO SHALLOW FRY THEM IN BUTTER, PEOPLE. And let them get gold and crispy.

Fried egg in it is just gorgeous. Hash brown if they have it. Must try cheese... I put cheese on everything else so i dont see why not :D

Soft roll only! (Don't want to be fighting with the thing)
    Butter
    Sausages
    Whilte pudding
    Fried egg
    Hash brown
    Salt - copious amounts of
Ketchup - just enough to add flavour, not too much that it takes over the taste of warm fry melting the butter......

Must have latte with the above and the mornings newspaper.

If I have to link to better examples of that, I will.

This should get you started though

edit: omg yeah - softrolls are for the winners.

edit2: damnit I REALLY wish I could afford one.

I can honestly say I have never had a breakfast roll.

You will have my resignation in the morning.

It would have to have all of the above, but solid egg, no runny for me. And both types of pudding. Then of course we come to the great brown vs red sauce debate. The jury is still out on that one.

get yourself to the local shop now. mister. and bring me back a pack of pringles please.

edit: or a second breakfast roll. I'd like that more.

    Uses Shampoo.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Anyway.

Sausages, rashers, black and white pudding, butter, mushrooms and hash browns (I don't like eggs) and red sauce.

On the red sauce thing. I grew up calling it red sauce. I have started using the "ketchup" word, but I think I'll stop.

I have to say I have gone off breakfast rolls, however this may be due to the fact that I can't get a really good quality one around me.

however at home it would be a toasted batch bread, soft fried egg with yoke pre burrst (scrambled egg can be subvbed in), grilled rashers with nice crisp fat, superquinn sausages and some good quality butcher white pudding

    JUMBO BREAKFAST ROLL

Two eggs two sausage two rasher two Bacon Two puddins one Black one white . All Stacked like a tower on top of each other and then rolled up good and tight. If you¹re having some tea the milks over there, you¹ll find sugar in the bowl. Says she Do you want some sauce on that, says I, I do in my ..........roll

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭big b

    My daily roll was :
    4 rashers, 4 sausages, 2 black puddings, 2 white puddings, 2 well-fried eggs,
    all on a crispy baguette.
Then I had some dental work & couldn't manage the roll for a while, so the girl used to put it all on a tray for me. Bless.

I regularly see guys in the shop ordering a roll like the one above..........and asking for mayo instead of butter.
    It's a breakfast roll.wtf???

how the fcuk did they fit all that on one roll?! are you sure it wasnt 2 sausages cut down the middle to make you think it was 4?!

Fresh Roll. Crusty on the outside, soft bread on inside.
Butter. Melting into still hot roll.
    Tomato Sauce
1 Fried Egg Scrambled works, but fried is just that bit better.
    2 Sausages Cut in half.
2 Hashbrown Mixed with white pudding
2 White Pudding Black is just too crumbly

Now; it's tomato sauce - none of that red sauce crap. Other than the flavour, it's secondary purpose in a breakfast roll is lubrication.

Rashers work best on their own between two slices of bread, with butter and tomato sauce - In a breakfast roll, they're too much hassle, and you don't get the whole flavour.

Bonus points for anyone who puts forward their favourite breakfast blaa. (In fact, bonus points to anyone who knows what a blaa is!)

It's a well-filled roll alright. Baguette about a foot long. I know my sausages and there are 4 of them.
Think it's supposed to be €3.40, but I always get it for €1.75.

TBH, when I open the wrapper, a sausage or bit of pudding or something will usually have fallen out & I eat it on it's own before starting on the roll.

    soft enough roll
    about 2 ounces of butter
4 rashers, 2 if theyre too thick
    2-3 hash browns
sausages if theyre not wrinkley or ****e.
Beans and mushrooms if they have them.
Sub sausages for those sausages stuffed with stuffing and wrapped in bacon if they have em.
No pudding because its crap "meat"

A blaa is a blaa! Calling it something like a bap is just an insult.

Sub in blaa for roll in any of the above (except for the outrageously full one, which wouldn't fit) to get everyone's favourite. But yo need to ask the question, what kinda blaa do ya want!!! Soft, crispy, floury, not so floury, warm, cold? The blaa is a complex food item and deserves its own rung on the food pyramid.
