Satellite Signal: Figure this one out?

OK, this is the strangest thing. I can't figure out what is causing this problem but maybe someone here might. I have 2 Sky HD boxes, running off a quad LNB. One downstairs and one in the bedroom. The one downstairs has no problems and works fine. The one upstairs acts like so:

Most subscriptions channels display correctly when in or out of the room. Some free to air channel work fine when in or out of the room. Most free to air channels break up display and audio once anyone is moving in the room. If some one stays still in the room the signal returns to normal. If I move outside the room door and leave the door open the signal stays fine. One step inside the door and the signal breaks. I can recreate this at will. The weird thing is that the signal strength and quality are both prefect and this only happens on some channels. Its kind of similar to having an old indoor analogue aerial and the distortion that used to follow you around the room.

My question is this: How could this be happening with a satellite signal? The point in the wall is fine, as is both connections on the cable, I have even swapped the cable with the box downstairs and switched inputs on the box.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    That's an odd one.

What about swapping the physical boxes? I'm making a guess of dry solder joints in the HD box somewhere, and the vibrations of you walking on upstairs floor causing the joint to uhm, well act up, and thus the channel... would expect that all channels would act up though on this theory...

No, haven't tried swapping the boxes yet. I thought something similar myself but can't figure why its only on some channels. Wasn't there an issue with a dodgy component in the PSU causing similar problems, I remember a link to a site where you could purchase the replacement parts. I may swap the box first though!

You are quite right, with regards dodgy components.

    The repair kit is here:

I've also noticed that the tuner modules seem to be just plug-ins, maybe one is a bit loose?

I wonder would something like a wifi signal, cordless phone or even video sender be causing some interference as reported in other threads.
A dry joint are rarely so dependable as described though shaking the box should help diagnose that.

I strongly suspect that it's a cordless phone set in the same room.

I had a simillar problem and only cured it through very carefull positioning of the coax feed to the stb. Took ages to move it about slightly until the interference on certain channels was eliminated. The feed coax is now held in place along the required route to the box. Interference could come and go depending on who walked between the phone base set and the sat receiver.

This could be your problem. I find a good test to be the Pop and Tiny Pop channels. These seem to be most easily affected - as my 4 year old daughter often told me, before the solution was found.

You could swap box's and see if it's a problem with the specific box or the room.
