Integration Problems

    So maths exam soon, doing integration atm

    The first one is just a substitution type integral. Let u = something, then find du = (something) dx. Choosing u in such a way that when you change the variable of integration to du it causes a cancellation with something in your integrad.

    Yup, Thomas Calculus is your best bet, or even better still Schaum's Calculus-Most colleges should have this book. Saved my asse in first year more than once. It has thousands of worked examples.

    The first ones are just integration by parts. Fairly straight forward, you should find numerous examples of these. They're on the LC higher maths course too. Partial Fractions are in Calculus too afaik. Look at example 1 in here-should explain it.

    Give your questions above a shot, post up your answers and someone'll give you a bit of guidance.

    (i) -cos(√θ)
    (ii) [ln(x+1)^3] / 3
    (iii) 4x(x - (1/4)sin4x] - (x^2)/2 + (cos4x)/4

    edit: (b) (1/4)ln(x-1) + (3/16)ln(x+1)

    For the fourth one (iv), I let u = 1 - x^4

    then x would be (1 - u)^1/4 right?

    I think the first is right and the first shot ya took at the second one appears to be right. I'm in the middle of a load've study myself, so I didn't put a lot of effort into them i'm afraid. Someone else might be able to help you more.
