Hi guys its my first post in the Paranormal section, i've always been interested in the subject only ever as a pastime and out of curiosity.

About a 10 years ago an uncle(Pat) of mine died in his bed, massive heart attack he was 48. He was a drinker and worked the building trade all his life. About 1 year ago maybe less my other Uncle(Willly) who was my deceased uncle's best pal as well as his brother had a strange occurence.

He came home from the pub on a saturday evening had a few pints on him but not too bad, he sat in the sitting room with my aunt who had stayed at home due to a bout of the flu, willy went into the sitting room sat down and started to flick throught the channels on t.v, my aunt went to the kitchen to make him a sandwich. Willy decided to pour himself a whiskey from the drinks cabinet and started talking to himself or so my aunt thought, she stood in the hallway listening and it was like he was having a full blown conversation with Pat my deceased uncle, she said it went on for 20 minutes or so and she went into the room, to her suprise Willy had poured a second whiskey for Pat(deceased) and placed it on a table beside where Pat used to sit when he would visit. My aunt was a bit spooked and told Willy its time to hit the sack and get a good nights sleep, when he went to walk up the stairs he could not get past the second step, nothing to do with alcohol, my aunt said it was like a barrier stopping him from going up stairs. Eventually he gave up and slept on the couch. Next morning Willy was completly spooked and swore blind that Pat was sitting there, after this event he needed councilling and still gets the shivers in the house. Over the past few months they have established that before Pat died he had never been past the second step in the house, he only ever sat on the 1st or 2nd step when on the phone and never used the upstairs toilet, he always used the downstairs toilet. Maybe just one of those things but my Uncle is a pretty serious guy and wouldn't mess about this sort of thing, and does not speak about it and only a few people know about it.

Main question is, Has anyone ever encountered this before and what is the explaination.

    Cheers PF

I offer two basic explanations for what went on, based on the two extremes of outlook and beliefs.

Rational explanation: Your uncle had a few drinks, and in that suggestible state 'believed' he was seeing and talking to the man. And couldnt make the stairs because of the drink taken.

Supernatural explanation: Your uncle took a drink or two, allowed him to become more 'open' to spirit contact. In his more relaxed state his mind no longer had the concious blocks we put up (being trained from childhood that ghosts arent real) and he didnt question a conversation with a dead relative. Your story reads to me like a full on spirit link, including some transfer of emotion and habit of the deceased person. (reluctance to use the stairs) Its not unheard of, but can be very upsetting when you come out of it and wonder what happened.

Yeah when my aunt explained it to me i thought it was the drink but she said he was only out for about 2 hours and had 4 or 5 pints and was home at 11pm, he had the 1 whiskey in the house, so i think it rules the alcohol out of it. And if it was the drink there is no way on earth he would have went to councilling for 8 months, he was really shaken by this and still is, he has only ever spoke of it once to me and we are fairly close, he is covinced my deceased uncle was there and remembers the conversation word for word.

Youll more likely be talking to god on the white telephone.

Having had similar happen, I did the therapy route with non believing people, which did not help, as all they could do was deny the reality of what I experienced. If it did help your uncle, fine. In my case, peace of mind only came when I accepted that my experiences were real, and I wasnt crazy. Then I could let them go. And I would say that there is no reason to be scared. If you were not scared of the person when alive, there is no reason to fear them in this situation.
