Being the biggest beer lover this side of the milkyway i have been considering of late, brewing my own beer! Now before someone pipes up with the "itll taste of piss" routine i have done alot of research in said area and think i can make a good go of it.

Now im not after info before one of you sharp brothers points me in that direction, but im after your opinions. Would you? have you? good bad etc etc.

The missus see, wants me to get a hobbly (another one besides drinking) so she will have no complaints when i explain my new found obsession

so, brewing ones own beer, Yeah or Neah?

I had been know to make a few of my own brews many, many years ago. Some were quite nice to drink, some were revolting, and some were dangerously high alcohol content. Was all good fun though and very cheap as well.

    I say Yeah!

This is something I might try my hand at this summer when I have a little more time on my hands.

@knightmare : Did you give your beer a name, brother?

Apologies, I see you call it Amber Ale.

To give it it's full name:

    Amen to this, Amber Ale

Have sex with her more often. Failing that, start having sex with random household objects.

    *considers shed in back garden*

Is it difficult to do? Anyone got any links?

I'll try anything once. Probably taste like piss, but it'd be my own brand of piss, so I will drink it :pac:

See would making your own not go against what bgrh stands for? Why do something that the good people of diageo could do for us?

Thats a very debatable point, a lot of people believe mega breweries like diageo produce bland beer and are instrumental in preventing the public in access other beers.

why bother cooking, since there are plenty of restaurant and ready meals around. I brew beer from grain in a process that no different from most breweries and use ingredients that most breweries just don't or cant use because of commercial constraints.

I have used yeast from fullers, chimay, Rochefort and Weihenstephan to way similar and differ to the original source to ex pained my experience

or it could actually be how im getting on with ma LordChessington's previously mentioned, and very relevant, suggestion

Question for ya knightmare, does over indulging in said amber necktar result in a stinkin hangover the next day?

Tend to Keep my Beers around the 4 - 5% mark so I can drink a fair bit of it without suffering afterwards.. But like anything gentlemen moderation is the key.

a longs long time ago mine pappa tried to brew his own cider, got a lot of apples from his country cousin and bought all the gear the brewing went ahead however after all the stages we were left with a fine cider vinegar, which was unfit for drinking, didn't really stop me and a few eager friends from trying though and how pappa laughed when he found out I think he left that poison there on purpose.

I have never liked cider since I wonder
