Same here but when I do it myself I always stick them under a couch or Bench.

I actually find them far easier doing it the way it is in the video  It's a shorter range of motion the way your hands only have to reach your knees, I think most people probably use more hip flexor (easy to do when your feet are anchored) than abdominals, just a thought.

You cannot have assistance but you can grip the edge of the mat with your heels. You cannot raise your feet from the ground, when this is happening you're pretty much spent anyway.
A wallchart detailing the requirements for the ITs (not fitness test for entry) can be found here http://www.1bderdf.com/ftchart.pdf
Is this for entrance to the DF or for the IT's?

Not so bad so, minimum twenty of each to worry about and a shorter run.

I know this was the case with the old way of doing the sit-ups. Even some of the training instructors agreed, after the fitness test your tighe's would be burning rather than your abs!

Ah they're not too bad. I think they're easier to do with hands beside your legs rather than on them but if that's the way they want it done so be it. Practice makes perfect.

Doing them the old way was dangerous, this way is fine.

Because you can injure your spine by doing Sit-ups as alot of people don't use the Abs to do Sit-ups properly and they put alot of Pressure on their spine.

can someone please explain why on earth the cant be done like this
    http://video.google.com/videosearch?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADBS_en___IE231&q=army%20sit%20ups&um=1&sa=N&tab=wv#

can manage to them like this no problem, around 35 in a minute yet cant do 1 bloody "defence forces sit up"

I can't do more than a handful of situps before my back gives up, wonder if that was part of the problem.

Do you do Proper stretches before starting them?

That is a problem I have seen in most people. Their Back Muscles cant handle the cold start.

(I am not great at them but I could scrap 30 if I was able to secure my feet.

You don't use you back at all this new way. If you want to practice, do squats.

No warm up TBH but I could do quite a lot back in the day when I was trying to get that six pack that impressed the ladies so much. :pac:
My back is well and truly screwed now, the situps may have contributed to the problem but the motorcycle accidents, neck injury and bad posture could also account for it :D.

so its definately noboady holding your feet,if they do it in the us and every other army for entrance tests, why on earth cant we?

Typical Army Logic really. (Even though you do use your Abs More when nobody holds your feet.) Otherwise you will use your Legs for the situps.

Hands on temples - knees bent. Bring your elbows to your knees and repeat a million times.

Then and only then will you have a chance of having abs like mine - washboard FTW baby!
