Just getting started on the VC, Downloaded Megaman 2 and very happy I am with it.

What next? I'm tempted by Donkey Kong but dont think its really worth it, I doubt I'll get more than 5 or 10 minutes here and there out of it.

Any recomendations welcomed, I have a fondness for NES games in particular.

You mentioned on the DS thread that you are pretty much a Zelda virgin... so I have to recommend The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES).

My favourite game of all time. Ever. On any console.

I downloaded Mario Cart 64 last night without realising I would need a special controller...

    /facepalm - EPIC FAIL

Super Metroid, Gunstar Heroes and all the mario games (although I'm not bad about mario 2) are pretty much essential if you haven't gotten them already.

If you have a Gamecube controller lying around, you can use that instead.

The Virtual Console thread (located here) lists most of the virtual console games along with a mostly unbiased verdict on the better and worse titles on offer.

I say Streets of Rage, that game has a special place in my heart.

If you want a NES game, River City Ransom is one of the best and 2 player to boot!

I like Simon's Quest too, but you really need an online guide to make sense of it because the clues are cryptic and obscure (but all the more realistic for it).

Obscure is too kind a word for it. Disgracefully translated is better. You will definitely need a walkthrough for the game.

I'd go with Super Castlevania first since it's the best vania game available. Pity vania 3 draculas curse isn't there and I don't hold much hope for it either since it's notoriously difficult to emulate.

I need to get my hands on a Classic or Gambcube controller first but Mario World, Super Metroid and Super ghouls and Ghosts all look like being purchases, this is turning out to be an expensive habit.

EDIT: forgot A Link to the Past and Ocarina of time. this is starting to get out of hand.

Trust me when I say you really need Gunstar Heroes.

Come on, its worth the 5 quid for the game music alone!!!

I have to say, I enjoyed the game, I did get the Nintendo Magazine guide at the time and it really explained what stuff was for and all that jazz, the weird NPCs made it for me. I liked that it wasn't the usual obvious clues you get in RPGs

Have to agree, it's probably the best NES soundtrack other than Megaman 2. Bloody Tears is a wonderful piece of music and still think it sounds as good if not better than all the remixed and orchestrated versions that appear in the other vania games.

I agree about that but some dont, I was playing Megaman 2 last night and after about 20 minutes my Girlfriend begged for mercy and made me turn the sound down.
