Next-day DOM-busting Recovery Session

didn't make it to the gym all last week so hit it hard yesterday for almost two hours, following this up with a three-mile run.

Well, I pretty much ache all over today. Was planning on just resting up tonight (okay, okay, I'm playing golf after work - but then I'm defo gonna rest up!).

Just wondering what some people might do the next day to aid recovery? Hit the pool/sauna/jacuzzi? Maybe lift a few more light weights or go for a long walk/slow jog?

    Thanks.

Rest is best for me. If I was to miss a week though, I wouldn't launch back in with a mammoth two hour session. Spending that long in the Gym can be counter productive and isn't something I'd ever do.

Maybe a dip in the pool or walk would be a good idea, but most importanly you need to listen to your body i.e Ache = rest.

Flex the muscles that are sore to get some blood into them (just don't let anyone see you doing it ;) )

    Get the protein in.

    Cold showers.

Or the one that usually serves me best (but hurts a bit at first) - hit the pool.

My favourite recovery session is a 20-30mins turnaround session. Get GAA/Soccer pitch and stride out 50/60m at very relaxed pace but faster than what you might regard a jog. Stop. Take 20-30secs recovery and stride back to your starting point. Repeat for 10-20 lengths or whatever you can handle. Always focusing on good form, relaxed running, it will really get you feeling better. Can have the same benefits as a slow recovery type jog but at a higher intensity and higher quality. This is not a ball breaker session, nice and relaxed shakedown preceeded by an active warmup and finished off with a good stretch.

    Aw, thanks guy!

I'm not sure what people think when they see the name but it comes from when I was a kid and used to play soccer on the same team as my cousin. We had a kinda inside joke - can't remember how it originated actually or what the joke was even - that when one of us had the ball out wide the other would shout "WHIP EH! WHIP EH!" in our best Dublin brogue for a cross - usually just resulting in the two of us p*ssing ourselves laughin! Or he had a habit of, when he saw me goin to pass to someone who wasn't him, saying "Don't do it Man - Don't do it!!" resulting in me usually p*ssin myself laughin again.

I guess you had to be there :o :pac:

The way Stewie keeps on saying 'whip' in this episode of Family Guy is how I imagine your name should be pronounced! That's how I've always pronounced it in my head anyway!!

Sorry for dragging your thread off topic - slightly more on topic - I usually just head back up the gym, even for some light work - just to get the blood flowing again!

    I'm a gal :)
I find myself saying wwwwwwwwwhhhhhip it really fast whenever I read it.

About the muscle soreness lots of ppl say a bath w/ epsom salts works. Other than that just a bit of stretching and a walk or two. Hope it isn't worse tomorrow
