I suspect the age of the two individuals in the pic tells all.

    "heh, kool!"

    Mike.

I actually think it's looks kind of groovy!
I think they are a very boring looking car and theres a good few around.

    Something different... No?

having had, and just sold one, i have to say the lowered look does suit them, but 18" wheels and acid green - not for me man

On the upside - at least the windows are tinted so people can't see you driving it. :pac:

ahh ..the green isn't too far off from some of the original 70's psychedelic colours, the 18 inchers could be sold on to some other youngfella for megabucks, the tinted windows double as air conditioning in the summer ...all in all ...you could get a bargain there :D

That'd look class with the wheels blacked out and some choice stencils... Could be the base for a very cool project!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,342 ✭✭✭JohnBoy

I think with some minor work that would look class.

some decent sized steels 16s maybe, in black with chrome caps.

lose the windscreen sunvisor, and possibly the rest of the tints and that'd be a super cool cruiser.

Nope its hideous from start to finish.

I did see a similar one, a W114 Coupe with that trick hydraulic suspension at a show a few years back !

Amazing how those Mercedes 600's go for nearly €100k, and yet one still manages to end up in a banger race. Some people just have too much money to waste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Yeah, even the trim on that one is worth a pot of gold, whatever about the rest of the car !

    600landaulette60020hn.jpg

They go for more money, there was one advertised a few years ago for 1 million pounds as it was a 6 door launderlette.

so maybe the op thinks that it was good or bad to go green and big wheels on an e class but this is what was done to a 600 pullman.

........sorry to be pedantic but that would be a Landaulet, very few made but I doubt they would fetch that price in todays climate, unless they had some real positive provinence !

well the 600 was the lap of luxury and no major changes made to it during its I6 year build. It was the preferred mode of transport for royalty, politicians and film and rock stars. there are a few of them still impounded in iran since
    the revolution in 1979.

Unfortunately it was also favoured by despotes such as African dictators like idi amin and chairman Mao who owned 23 of them. recently 2 were seen on parade in north korea ferrying kim jung il. I may be wrong here but there may have been one built in 2001.

.....touche.......(thats with one of those slants over the "E" so its pronounced tooshay ;) )

Never heard of the 2001 600, but they were actually built from 1963 'til 1981. Can you imagine the cost of building on new now. I know the ugly Maybach costs a huge amount but a large amount of the 600 was hand built or hand finished.

Still I'd take one over anything else around nowdays !

Can anyone tell me if the front bumper on that car is the correct one? I have a '70 250CE with the same bumper and my mechanic said it was the wrong one, it should be a double bumper (like two of the existing bumpers sitting on top of each other) looking at the front of my car it does seem he's right, it looks like there is space below the bumper.

He also has a 250 CE and his has a 'double' bumper

    Here's a pic of mine

    Man, I wish!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Yeah as far as I know the Coupe's always had the double bumpers, I dont know if it was ALL W114's that had them but certainly W115's did not !

Some markets the rear bumpers were actually only 1/4 bumpers, Italy I think !

No, replaced by single bumpers in 1973 (August to be precise)

When the Israeli's hit Entebbe airport to rescue the Hostages of Flight 193 in 1976,they had a Black 600 similar to Idi Amins as a decoy which they had "Borrowed" from the German Ambassador, if rumour is true, they returned it with the bullet holes and the first time the German Diplomatic Service found out where the car had been was when the film makers asked if they could borrow the car again.

Ok, that would mean mine should definitely have doubles so. Cheers!

......good man Andreas, I figured someone would come along to correct me. Was this with the general "facelift" of the W114/115's ?

It seems like an odd decision to drop them !
