I can't believe it's the final week, how quickly it went!! Will definitely be keeping this up after this week - think we need a Challenge Part Deux - for those who want to keep it going. Set it for another 8 weeks maybe - to finish up mid July. This challenge has really helped me stay motivated (apart from last week when stress blew it all out of the water..)!

Anyway, week 8 - going to have to reverse some of last weeks negatives and make a real effort!

    Yay!

I'm going to go all out this week, it's the home stretch, i'll be eating right and getting plenty of exercise, to get that 32" waist and to complete a 10k run this weekend

    Measurements are in cm:
    Beginning:__Week 7__________Week 8
    Neck_________37_______________38
    Chest________94.5______________94
    Bicep________29.5______________29.5
    Wrist________16.5______________16.5
    Waist________83.5(32.8")________82.5(32.5") <--- nearly there!
    Hips_________92.5_____________92.5
    Top of legs____87.5_____________86.5
    Knee________35.5______________35
    Calf_________35.5______________35

As I said before, once I get back from my holiday, i'll start up a fitness log. That'll be more about maintenace, building up some upper body strength and tracking my running times.

I'm looking forward to next week, putting up my Week1 - Final measurements comparison :D

Maybe we could just have a BSBBSC alumni thread, where we could keep in touch and comment on each others' fitness logs? :D

I agree!Im hoping to start another 8 week challenge next monday. It would be good to have a few other people doing it awell to keep me motivated.

The only time I really messed up in this 8 week period was when I couldn't excercise for several days due to injury, and when I started to eat crap in between meals for a few days.Il try and give it 110% this week.......

Well done to all who had some success!!

Congrats to all who have managed to complete the challenge. I didn't make it myself, but i'm working on it in my own time once again. I just need to find a gym around here thats worth joining.

It's not over yet!!! We're only in the final week - so the pressure is on now :D

ok my sleep on both friday and saturday was completely disrupted by people having parties so I was knackered and cranky on Sunday morning so doing measurements wasn't really a top priority so just took quick measurement which weren't that accurate so I won't use them. weight however was 207lbs which from week 2 (which was my heaviest) is nearly a full stone down (13 lbs) so all in all happy with that.

    arms again 15.6"
    legs roughly 25.7"
    waist 37.5"
    chest didn't measure.

Overall thoughts, yes I could of lost more weight however my priority will probably always be strength and at the moment I have ended up being the strongest I have ever been so I am haivng to eat a lot more then I planned on doing at the start and last night reaffirmed that I made the right call on doing this when I got a big PB of 2 working sets of 140 x3 on squat so I will happily take that. However I am still nearly a stone down and 2 and a half inches off my waist from the start so it's not like I have sacrificed a lot

This week's training is going to be tough for me - did a session in the gym yesterday which was ok the previous week, but am a bit stiff + sore today because of it. I'm planning to pull out all the stops this week though and make sure I don't miss anything.

But this week is definitely not the end for me, it's still only really the beginning!

It's about the journey, not the destination!

Oh and I forgot to mention it earlier but bumped into Lindak last night in the gym and she is look damn hot as a result the serious effort she is putting in, serious kudos girl :D

Unfortunetly I missed out on this due to injuries etc at time of conception!

However would love to take part in one (Started my own yesterday with a goal of July) for the craic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,407 ✭✭✭✭justsomebloke

not unless they specifically wanted to and I don't think anyone was pushed so they haven't. I said from the outset that there wasn't enough wax in Ireland that would give me a photo that I would be willing to post

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 938 ✭✭✭blah

I found my pics to be motivating, on the side one where you can see the waist shrink and from the front you can see my torso firm up. :D

But I also know that a mate of mine has been perving my progress on these threads so the last thing I want is to get tagged in a facebook photo of me in my boxers (no matter how happy I am with my progress) :o

Oh thanks very much JSB you were looking well yourself !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

    Measurements for Week 8
    Neck -0.25"
    Chest Same
    Bicep -0.25"
    Wrist Same
    Waist -0.875
    Hips -0.625"
    Top of legs -0.5"
    Knee +0.125"
    Calf -0.25"

    Body Weight -0.4lbs - 10.0 stone even.

Well - considering last week was awful, this isn't too bad. The huge gain in inches on my waist is coming off at least! Weight hasn't budged. How do you put on 2.25" in a week on your waist and not put up a lb on the weighing scales and no it wasn't time of month etc.!?!

Don't think I'll be posting my pics! They are the most unflattering photos I have ever seen of myself. Really Horrible!!! So they are for my eyes only!! Have been checkign for comparisons etc. between week 1 and week 8 photos and to be honest the differences are minimal. The only noticable chance is my collarbones!!

has anyone else seen the photos cause sometimes people can be there own worse critic. So maybe show them to someone else, even if you ask some one of the people here if they will have a look to see if they can point out any areas which you may have over looked. maybe ask g'em or lindak (I'd put myself on the list but I know you would prefer to send them to another lady)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

That's true alright JSB - I got my sister to look at them and I think she noticed more changes than I did but overall - no dramatic changes! I know it's only an 8 week period.. but I would love to have taken a picture back in early January when I started first off. I'm sure there are dramatic differences since then! :D

I'll see how the final pics look and might ask for a second opinion on here then!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 510 ✭✭✭lindak

I never took any photos myself ! Couldnt bring myself to do it ! I am obsessive as it is ,JSB will confirm that !! I know from looking at myself though that I have toned up and lost inches ! Cant believe the 8 week are over already !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

It's not over till the fat lady sings :D Another 2 days!! haha My final measurements will be Tuesday night I think - as that's when I have been doing my measurements all along. Same with weigh-in! As good as reason as any to be good this weekend!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 938 ✭✭✭blah

Uggghh, I know I said this was the home straight, but I tripped up last night. Went for a thai meal for my friend's birthday. Had about 10 whiskeys and 3 glasses of wine. I had been eating very little all day because I knew I'd pig out. And I did, I think I tried a bit of everything, people saw me chowing down and offered up their leftover mains, which I gladly accepted :(

Not much I can do now before I measure up on Sunday, but at least I'm getting a weights session in tonight and doing a 10km run on Sunday (first time I'll ever run that far)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 510 ✭✭✭lindak

I'm going to set myself up with a fitness log next week,
    need a good name,
    "Life after the challenge"
"Beginning the habit of a lifetime"

but I'll actually be off on a 2 week holiday this day next week so the real work won't happen until I get back.

hey there are no fat ladies here to sing.:D

ok with regard to your last weigh in, do 2 do your usual one but also do one on tuesday morning just after you get up and have been to the loo (taking that you have a scales at home)

Yes good idea - I will do that :) I just knew that for the duration of the Challenge, it would be unrealistic to take measurements in the mornings - as I hate mornings and barely get time to shower and run to work! Since the challenge, I have been having my breakfast - which is unheard of for me! A cup of muesli and tea :) So this week I will take a weigh-in on Tuesday morning, just to see what the difference is!

My final measurements are tomorrow morning. To be honest, the last couple of weeks I haven't been as strict as the first half of the challenge, so overall I won't have changed too much, but it's moving in the right direction and that's the main thing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 938 ✭✭✭blah

Are you guys planning on eating something special when you're finished? (obviously you don't want to fall off the wagon altogether)

After I do a 10k run  on Sunday, I plan on getting myself a domino's pizza (maybe bbq chicken) and wedges and garlic mushrooms with garlic dip. And a few beers to wash it down, Budvar I think. :p To hell with calories!

Hi everyone, I'm so, SO sorry I haven't been around as much as I should have of late. To say I've been busy would be a massive understatement, but I have been reading and following your progress.

I've moved apartment AND moved job in the last couple of weeks so I struggled a little bit without the comfort of my routine to fall back on. At the same time though, while I've been fairly stressed at various periods I've also been extremely happy, and I've loosened the vice-like grip I've always tried to maintain over my eating habits. So right now I'm just enjoying eating healthily without being obsessed (a big step for me!!). I purposely left my weighing scales behind in my old abode, so I haven't a fart's notion what my weight is right now. But my clothes are better fitting and the mirror is being good to me.

My heavy lifting has taken a bit of a back-seat for a while too and I have to admit it feels nice to go to the gym and just play around. I really don't know what the future will hold, I know I'll get back into competing but for now I'm just enjoying all the changes that are going on, and while I may not be very Giselle Bunchen-esque on the beach this summer, I'll be happy enough to wear my swimmers if the need arises.

I've been massively impressed with the support that everyone who has provided, and the positive vibes that emanate from the thread are nothing short of inspirational. I know that this weekend heralds the "official" end of the challenge, but I get the distinct feeling that it won't spell the end of everyone's hard work. You all deserve a MASSIVE yay!! for proving that eating well and exercise needn't mean a life of dull and dreary fitness-nazi-ism. Kudos to you all yay_by_xXsh4dXx.gif

    Group hug :D

*pats everyone on the ass in a non sexual predator way* Good hustle folks well done to everyone who hung in there.

    Great idea g'em.

I crashed twice on the 8 weeks, my bday and last weekend for my anniversary with my girlfriend.

Probably going to take a short break from measuring everything I eat for a week or 2 and then start trying to put on more muscle. In the past I just ate everything in site and while this does work for muscle gains it does make one quite flabby too :o

Things I could have done better were measurements. Did them at the start and today but none in between. Was always watching my weight but should have been doing measurements too.

EDIT: oh and my shoulder works again too. I was able to do upper body exercises last week and this week, these were very limited before this. I hurt it the night before the challenge started but after 6 weeks of resting it I can now at least use it. Sleeping on my left side still hurts but I will mind it. Second time I've hurt that shoulder

I second and third that.I know it sounds cheesy, but I never would have thought that an internet message board would have inspired to change my eating and excercise habits for a day, nevermind 8 freakin weeks.

You took the words right out of my mouth. In the past I've gone to gyms, swam, gone running, but I've never made progress anything like what I've done over the last 8 weeks. I'm literally in the best shape of my life now, and I intend to stay that way. Thanks, G'em! :)

I did it. I've achieved my goals, measurements, and ran 10k this afternoon. Never ran that far before.

Just ate a medium dominoes pizza and wedges and garlic mushrooms, and I'm having a couple of beers. I am soooo stuffed right now :D

Well i sorta got lost during the challenge, new job new commute, no internet access. Well done to everyone for achieving their goals and thanks for g'em for organising.

    Final stats for me anyhow

    Week 1 Week 8 Changes
    Weight (Kg) 73.8 74 0.2
    Neck 34 33 -1
    Chest (1) 95 93 -2
    Bicep 30 28 -2
    Wrist 16.5 17 0.5
    Waist (2) 93 91 -2
    Hips 95 92.5 -2.5
    Top of legs (3) 102 103 1
    Knee (4) 45 45 0
    Calf 43.5 43 -0.5
