    Hi All,
Hopefully right place to post! Im brand new to the whole photography scene, and was wondering if anyone has any advice as to what equipment I should go for, for "photoshoots".

Many thanks and apologies for being vague!

you'll either need a film or digital 35mm or 6x4.5 or 6x6 or 6x7 or 6x8 or 6x9 or 5x4 body with some lens between 8mm and 800mm, you may need a monopod or tripod, you may need on camera flash or studio flash kit.

    h.t.h.

(eh, you'll need to be a lot more specific for useful help)

Do you own a camera at all?

I think, depending on what you aim to accomplish, the first thing you need should be experience. Technically, you could do a photoshoot with a toy camera, but if it's something you're trying to make money from, people are going to be looking for past results...

Its not for money! Its purely to start somewhere. I want to start taking proper "photoshoot" style photos of my daughter. I was looking at getting a panasonic lumix fz8.

Well now that we have some info...

A non-SLR will eliminate any chance of getting a proper setup. You can't use a flash or anything. If you're going to get a Lumix, your best bet is to get your daughter into a well-lit room and use the available light.

Hmm. Id prefer to go for an option with a flash. Any suggestions on something similar?

    Many thanks

A cheap dSLR. Canon 400D or a 350D used... A flash could cost upwards of €150 depending on where you get it.

I would suggest you do a little research through this forum into 'bridge' cameras (they are basically in between point and shoot and full DSLR). Whilst not having the adaptability of a full DSLR they will take a very good pic, enable more creative photography and may give you what you need (Canon G9 would be a good example)

    best of luck

Ive been looking at the 350D. Can get one for around €250. Is the flash on it any good does anyone know?

Thanks for all the responses so far.

Build in flashes tend to be crap.

Have a look at http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/ for info on taking your flash off-camera. I bought one of the strobist kits from www.mpex.com and have found it really good for portraits
