Saving Torrents

this is a general bitTorrent application question. Do not discuss download content please.

I'm planning on Wiping my machine but I want to keep my torrent progress; I know I have to hang onto my downloads folder obviously but I have discarded all of the tracker files: so I could never guarantee I'd find the same tracker twice, you know the way.

When I reinstall my bitTorrent client, how can I resume my downloads in progress with the least possible hassle/loss of data? Is it as simple as copying over the application data folder as well, or will i need to do something about re-fetching the tracker files to load them into the client?

just.. save the torrent files somewhere you're not going to delete?

with utorrent it works as you suggested ,by copying over the contents of the app data folder , assuming the torrent files themselves are put in the same location again . i did a reinstall of vista last week and i keep my torrent files in a different partition so it was just a matter of reinstalling utorrent and transferring over the contents of the app data folder and restarting and it continued on exactly from where it was.

I've resumed with Azureus after moving the data. You just need to be careful.

Ever consider setting up an old pc as a torrent server? It sorted this problem for me. Not that hard to setup either, an old pentium 3 would do and hd's are dirt cheap atm. No more leavin my main pc on just for torrents. Can log in2 it from anywhere over the net and queue up more downloads.

You don't even need to move the data back.

If you have the torrent file itself just add it to the program again and point it to save the data to the new folder.

It's do a check on the data there and resume.

Yeah but the problem was I had lost the original tracker files.

But its done now. Saving the AppData and Download folders let it resume as normal after the reformat without even so much as a file re-check.
