    This week-end marks the end of a season for most of the Irish Players but it is the final farewell for a few.

    Anthony Foley
    Keith Gleeson
    Denis Hickie*
    David Humphreys
    John Kelly*

    * retired mid-season.

    All have been good servants for their club/province and country and I'd like to wish them well and thank them for their contribution to Irish Rugby.

    Edited to add.
    Has Simon Easterby retired as well?
    Simon Best
    and possibly even Guy Easterby.

    It would have been nice if hickie had stayed for the end of the ML, its such a shame that he went out in the fashion that he did. He's one of the best players this country has ever seen.

    And Gleeson should have played for Ireland more.

    I think he would make a good sports presenter/pundit

    I must say, I was exceptionally surprised when Hickie announced his retirement. Easily had another season in him, and Leinster certainly missed him this year. At least he and Gleeson went out on a high, but it would have been nice if we knew it was Hickie's final Leinster game last year.

    It's especially unfortunate that Best has to retire. At least the rest went out on their own terms.

    Anthony Foley, Keith Gleeson, David Humphreys - great players. Right up to the day they retired and will be missed by their respective provences and Ireland.

    As for Hickie, really disapointed that he left in the fashion that he did, superb player, this generations geaoghan, one of the best players we've ever produced and I felt he had a few more seasons in him. He could even come back for next season and probably get his game.
