no it has been there before. I think it was 2006 when I did it. The sea area forecast was telling small crafts not to to out to sea and there were a couple of hundred triathletes piling into very rough water! I aquaplaned the entire bike course. Stormy weather aside, it was great craic.

    Third year running.

    Conditions can be terrible.
    Accomodation is scarce and overpriced.

Did it the first year, or rather started, pulled out after the swim and went home.

that's right, I stayed in the most dingy B&B. which reminds me, I must sort out accommodation for the inisboffin swim soon.

2006 - Very bad weather ruined the day. Probably should have been cancelled/postponed the conditions were so bad. That can happen at any race though in fairness.

2007 - An absolutely cracking day and a great event. Absolutely calm blue sea, no wind and sun burn after one of the most enjoyable races of last season. Tough hilly run but through a very scenic part of the country.

B&Bs I can't vouch for as I stayed with friends but if you book early I'm sure there is accomodation available reasonably enough - If not in Carna then nearby or Galway itself.

I enjoyed last year so much, I've decided to go again even though the new one in Wicklow is so close to Dublin!

For accommodation at Galway race, check out http://www.triathlonchonamara.com/pages/accom.html

There are is a little hotel near Carna which is nice; there are also a few houses for rent in the Killkerrin/ Carna area.

The craic was great after the race last year and it's a spectacular course.

Conditions were very bad two years ago weather wise - but as a very poor swimmer at the time I still managed to finish the swim and go on to finish the bike and run. You can't blame the weather for a bad race!

eh, yes you can. Bad weather makes a race miserable for those taking part and supporting. Noone was blaming the the race organisers (I asumme you're the D.H. from Galway tri club?) for the weather. If there is going to be a race in connemara, the unpredicitable and often wet weather is just a fact of life.
