    Hey

I have recently moved to Balinteer and joined City West to try get back into golf

I was a 3 handicap until around 4 years ago and then had to give up as moved away from my course and couldn't justify paying the membership.

I am now trying to get my swing sorted and back to somewhere near it was before so need a few top up lessons.

Does anyone know any good pro's in the South Dublin area that would suit?

I would be looking at sorting the swing out and also for someone to go through my short game.

    Thanks

Why not try Raymond Burns at South County GC?

    Heard he is very good.

I'm pretty much exactly the same. Was 3, didn't play for 3 years, rejoined club this year.

I joined South County having been a student there previously. Got a new h'cap of 9 there last month.

Ramy is cool. Nice front-of-house guy which is not what I expected given that he was such a good player and on tour etc. I got a lesson off him there the other week and he was really good. Old fashioned method - no gimmics or technology which made a change for me given I used to go to Brendan McDaid. He strikes the ball unbelievably well himself and thinks everyone else should do the same. I'd highly recommend him.

Nope, but it's more to do with who the Pro is than the place itself. If you know or can find out the name of who you might go to, post it up and people might have some knowledge of him/her.

If you're looking for a driving range pro in that general area I'd recommend Dave Lavelle in Spawell. Lovely fella to work with and a great teacher.

    Kevin Foy or Dominic Reilly.

I found Dominic Reilly appalling when I had lessons from him some years ago. Gillian Burrell in Stepaside driving range is excellent.

ShriekingSheet how much dose Raymie charge for lessons. As I have had some lessons but was not happy with them, No names no pack drill. I have only started to play in the last year July 2007 not quite a year. I started very late in life but i really love it, I keep saying why didn't i start playing years ago, might have been good by now. Have a h'cap of 21 would really like to get it down. I know it might seem like I'am jumping the gun a bit, But i started off that first day scoring 149 for 18 holes in Silloge Park, Now that's down to 94 so i have made good progress i would like to continue in that vain.

    Thank's in advance.

I found Peter O'Brien to be very good, I got a few lessons off him last year when I was starting off and thought he was excellent.
Also, as mentioned above, I've heard Gillian Burrell is good, but have never been to her.

I went to David Lavelle in Spawell today for a 30min lesson. Have to say for one lesson I was really impressed. Amazed at some of the simple things I was doing wrong.

As for the guy himself, he's very patient and very nice. Facilities are good enough but would've liked an extra 10mins to be honest. Highly recommended nonetheless.

Have a few things to work on over the next few weeks then I'll be arranging a another session.

Spawell is close to Tallaght, went to Dave Lavelle there on Saturday. Theres other instructors there too.

Leopardstown isnt too far away from Tallaght. Believe there are a couple of good instructors there.

Oh thanks - sorry, as I breezed through the thread initially I thought that said "Heritage" in Laois.

Might give Simon a try - anyone any experience of him? Video analysis? Price? Availability etc?

    Thanks people.

Yes, Micheall Allen and Micheal Kavanagh both teach up in Leopardstown.

That Ramy guy is pretty average Mr Sheet. Maybe thats why you could not hit a barn door last week? +17 is pretty pants for a 9 handicapper??

I used John McDonald, the pro based in Blainroe and found him very good, he starts by identifyiing the simple basic parts of the swing that you must get right and then develops your strengths. Contact details on the following page:-
