Myself and my family are off to Sunny Beach in 3 weeks and its time to start thinking of changing money.

Wife came home this evening and said someone told her you cant change euro-lev here in ireland, i will call the bank in the morning to check, anyone know if this is true or not ?

Also, does anybody have any experience of changing money/using bank card over there ? I am aware not to use the guys on the streets to change, only in the banks and hotel receptions.

Last thing, does anybody have any do's and dont's for sunny beach ?

eh, hope it's not too late at this stage, but yep, you can change money at home, and as a warning - be very very careful where you change your money in bulgaria. there are a lot of dodgy places (that mightnt look so dodgy on the outside) that will show what look to be the right general rates, but once you change your money, you realise that they are actually showing the rates backwards...

eg.. normally you might give 10 lev and get 20euro, but what the board outside is actually advertising is that if you give them 20lev and end up with only 10euro. basically, once you've given the money to them, there's nothing you can do.

Check always your money and change them in bank only. Bulgarian are good people but they wouldnt mind to cheat you on that :)

Went to Pamporovo in March and you have to change your money over there - Just wait until you get to your hotel, although the place with the best rates is the '' FIRST INVESTMENT BANK '', I wouldnt change it anywhere else to tell ya the truth. Just be carefull. Oh and always agree fare with taxi driver before ya get in. Think our meters are bad - Theirs go by the second - Literally.

yeah, heard of many dodge taxi drivers, though, if you're in sunny beaches, most places are in walking distance.
