Wednesday morning I was driving to Portlaoise at about 5.20 am saw sheep in a field all huddled back to back. My first instinct was that dogs were worrying them, however to my surprise their was old charlie and him trying to get in the middle at the lambs.

I watched this for about 5 minutes before running him, pity I didnt have a camera. By the way there was no way he was going to suceed those sheep were determined.

    Anyone seen similiar

That's amazing. I have never witnessed that I must say.

Jesus he was some chancer, I didn't think they'd be so bold.

never witnessed it myself but a Donegal sheepfarmer once told that he threw his walking stick at a fox doing the same thing and the fox thought twice before he left and when he did he was in no great haste....

i think sometimes us hunters underestimate the intelligence of our quarry. oftentimes thats how we find ourselves outwitted!

seen a fox trying to take a lamb when i was coming down a slip road on to the n7,near newbridge. there was a sheep standing between fox and the lamb, trying to stay between them. fox dived and grabbed it, but it didnt see if it got away or not. once a fox has a taste for lamb he'll go mad for it.

I know a farmer who was loosing a lot of lambs one day he was out checking the sheep on the quad only to see a fox sitting beside a ewe ready to lamb he chased he fox off only for it to sit and wait for the farmer to go then came right back and sat down again that very fox took the two lambs as they were born:mad:The only thing to stop a fox that has the learned the art of killing lambs is a bullet.
