    Whats the upstairs part like?

Quite nice... more similar to the main bar in its look. Has a kind of L shape to it, so the bar is around the corner and doesn't interupt the music. Sound has always been good when I've been there. A nice medium sized venue, holds about 200 at most.

Looking forward to this. Yet to pick the mini album up yet. Mays gig list has raped my pocket.

New venue - I'm not too sure yet about this. I was just a little deflated when I saw what the sound system was the one time I was there.. my Hi-fi speakers are the same size. And the sound was woeful for one act I saw (Kill Krinkle Club). I can understand acoustic artists playing up here but bands with mad synth and sampler set ups? We will see!! Sure it's all one big learning curve.

I am very annoyed I missed F**k buttons and Magik markers up there! It is tiny.

    Funeral Suits - good steal.

Ah yeah, it is big enough as a venue. Pretty much the size of the downstairs bar, but there's a big chunk out of the middle for the smoking area, hence the L shape. I quite like it.

The monitors are quite small in size and look like studio monitors, but just cause they're not wedges doesn't mean they don't pack a punch. We supported Nelson there before and the sound onstage was great for us and the sound out front was quite fantastic for Nelson. It's a really nice option as a venue, I know it sounds like I'm working for the place, but I've ran my fair share of gigs in Dublin over the years and it's really filling a gap in the market, mostly because it's about Crawdaddy-ish size without destroying your wallet...plus the buzz after the gigs is generally quite good as it just merges back into the main Whelans vibe after awhile :)

Magik Markers were good but not great, Elisa was sick so I don't think she really got into it.

^^Would it suit alternative bands like? Do they mic the whole lot nd stuff like they do downstairs? Got a price...not too bad!

    What's considered an alternative band?

They do all the standard stuff, mic amps, DI bass, mic drums etc, there are monitors all over the place (really effective ones I can now say) and yeah, it's quality. I think the only limitation with the place is the amount of DIs available. When we played with Nelson they had some issue but I think they wanted 9 or 10 of them. Supernova Scottia (who are fantastic) played with us last night, doing that electro type thang, and they had no problem with their synths&laptops etc.

By Alternative i mean rock i'd say hehe! Like two electrics with vox nd fender amps and bass and drums is my band.. Your typical band i guess! Once the moniters are ok thats cool!

Ah i might book it there so he just said that it'd only be suitabe for at most one support act cos of space.

Actually do ya fancy playin a charity Gig in the Village this Sept?

Gettin most of the good Dublin bands to play to attract a good crowd.
So far its the Kinetiks and Codes booked still waitin on a few and waiting on a headliner. need to book it all now since i'm away the whole summer!
If you wanna check out the charity its for a bit more go to www.pieta.ie
The gig's gonna be part of "Suicide Awareness Week"
