I'm looking to work up on my production skills a little more over the summer so i wanted to know which is the best short course i could do this summer to get better at my music production skills.

There are a few courses done by STC and Pulse, i've studied at STC before, though i'm not sure what Pulse is like...

    Anyone got any recommendations??

This isn't really giving you your answer, but a friend of mine recently did a course on Reason in a well known audio training centre in Dublin. An absolute waste of time. He learnt more of what he wanted from me in a few hours than he did the whole length of the course. Be careful about what you sign up for, be sure it's what you want and take a close look at getting private one on one tuition as well as it will be tailored to your desires and will offer more than a cookie cutter course.

I did one of these introductory courses (but not in Ireland). Of questionable worth.

I would say have a look around online, there are some excellent books available to buy covering all aspects of the recording process.

From my experience on that course I would have gotten as much out of one of those books. Otherwise, should you specifically be looking to improve your knowledge of one particular application (Cubase or Reason or whatever) I generally find the instruction manuals with these to be really good.

I think the big problem with a lot of these shorter courses is that you don't have the opportunity to get a lot of hands on experience. The theory of how to use a compressor or whatever is all well and good, but ultimately you need to sit down with one and fiddle with the knobs as you use your ears.

I am teaching a Logic 8 course in Filmbase this month. There should be one of these every couple of months. If you are using a mac it would be worthwhile doing (although I AM biased).

^I saw pulse was doing those logic courses too...

Although i'm currently on a macbook and worked with grageband a little i have no experience of logic.
I'm more of the cubase/reason/protools guy.
So i'm not really sure if i wanna do that course. Though if you feel it would help me out, i might look into it...

Last year i did a part-time sound-engineering/music production course at STC in temple bar and i found it really helpful. It went on from sep till june and i learned most of what i know bout production through that course. So i'm not a complete beginner at production. I can say i know good loads and long hands on courses do teach you loads more than you can learn by yourself.

Lately i've been working on a solo music project which i plan to have completed by the end of this year. I'm looking for something more advanced that would give me good knowledge and skills to complete my project on time and in great quality while also helping me out with my future projects.

Looking for something that would focus more on programming, songwriting and production than something that's just a 3-5 days long introductory course that i feel i could learn more off the interent and manuals.
I need something thats more hands on and make my skills better. Cuz i usually get bored reading manuals and books which seem to go off on rants, i learn a lot more when i'm in a tutorial class room of sort where someone can actually explain and show you how things work...

depends on what type of music you want to do.if its electronica(any form of it)then these courses may not be suited.
i did the course in pulse when i was 18.honestly i was a horrible student.i didnt really take it seriously especially seeing as how they were talking about setting up for bands in the studio and how to splice tape together, stuff i knew i wasnt going to use.so like i said if its for electronica id avoid.
problem with the courses like that is that they have to start from the basics up,and if you already know a bit it may seem a bit ****.
its a tough one to judge really.
so what type of production you looking to do
