Inca Trail To Machu Picchu Marathon

Just want to let everyone know that I am heading off to Peru in 2 weeks to take part in one of the most extreme marathons in the world. The race starts high in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of 2500M and follows the Inca Trail over an undulating course including 3 high passes all of which are at an altitude of over 4000M and eventually finishes in the Inca Capital of Machu Picchu at an altitude of 2400M. To put this into perspective it would be like running a Marathon and climbing / descending Carrantouhill 3 times starting from sea level. The weather during the event will add to the challenge and temperatures during the race can range from below freezing at the start (04:30am) to 30 C towards the finish with possible rain and sleet. The Inca Trail normally takes 4 days to complete and our goal is to cover the distance in less than 9 hours. Our chosen charity for the event is the Jack & Jill Foundation which provides early intervention home respite care to families with children up to the age of 4, with severe developmental delay who require extended care. Thank you all, and I wish everyone taking part in this year's Cork City Marathon the very best of luck!!

Excellent Mate good luck with it. I walked the Inka Trail running some of it when it wasnt to busy. Our guide told us about the annual marathon. Did you do any altitude training to prepare? I didnt suffer any from the altitude but then I didnt run dead womans pass. Enjoy that part of it.
