Ok, parents travellong tp America in june, heading from SF to LA Yosemite/garnd Canyon. Anyone bveen there before? They are wondering about the "restrooms" along the way? Can you stay in these places (they have heard that from someone) Would ye recommend it or not? Any suggestions?

Also, seen a thread or two re Motels, but just wondering, how frequent are they? Are they easy to find/book in? Again, any suggestions?

What about driving on the roads over there? Any major points to note?

    Thanks!

    yeah done all four places.

LA to SF is a straight 400 mile drive (about 5-6 hours or so) if you go by interstate 5, highway 101 is a more scenic journey but longer and route 1 is just a spectacular journey along the coast but it will take a good 8-9 hours

yosemite is about 2 hours from SF but the grand canyon is a long way from the other 3 in terms of driving, its about 10 hours or more from LA (which is the closest of the places mentioned by you)

motel quality is very good in the states, motels in america usually consist of largeish room with two double beds and an ensuite bathroom, they are scattered all over the american west so finding one in even the smallest town should not be a problem, nearly all motels will have walk-in availability.

Thanks for taht. Yea, I was confused about the "restrooms" thing too... I think they mean rest areas? Like areas along the "highways" where ya can stop off.... And maybe stay the night? I really don't know, this is all totally new to us (as you can prob stay)
