Windows Autodetect Hardware

    Hi: I have attached a tapebackup device to my WindowsXP system, but in device manager, it displays the device as a different manufacture. How do I stop Windows autodetecting the device as a different manufacture device? Delete inf files...??
    I will disable the Plug and play service, but this sometimes lock up the computer.

    Why do you want it to do this?

    Mostly it's another manufacturer because that's the real manufacturer

    I'm am using 2x 1-slots IBM drives (along with a software called Syatape) but Windows XP see's one as Overland and the other as Tandberg...In the software, its reconginises the Tandberg as a mulit slot device but not the Overland.

    Can you not right click in Device Manager & choose update driver but don't allow Windows to do it automatically or search for best drivers? Tell it you will decide what drivers to install & point it to the correct drivers using the Browse button.
