    Hi,
I have an eircom account set up on thunderbird and for some reason the past few days it's having trouble connecting and getting mail. It will sometimes and wont others. The server is set to mail1.eircom.net and the port at 110 (default it says).

I haven't any other idea what could be wrong?

I've tried on 2 different wireless connections and they both have the same problem, one is UTV, the other is BT.

    Any feedback appreciated :)

Having the same problem again. Thunderbird isn't receiving any eircom.net emails for me. I have other email accounts set up on the same Thunderbird account, for poker.ie and vantasks.ie, and I get the mail from them addresses fine, but eircom mail just isn't coming through.

I was able to SEND a mail successfully from the thunderbird eircom account, but I sent a reminder mail to somebody to reply when they didn't get back to me, but when I checked eircoms webmail on eircom.net, I can see all the emails that haven't been delivered to my thunderbird and I see they did actually reply and thus replied twice because I sent them another mail without seeing their reply first:o

Any help would be appreciated :)

Ok, important update on this. I still couldn't receive mail through eircom so I tested disconnecting from the WiFi and using my Sony Ericsson phone to connect through o2 (using the phone as a modem). And it worked! I got the mail that was waiting for me.

So why could this be I wonder?

    Any feedback appreciated :)

Sounds like eircoms dns servers are on the blink...

You checked your mail through the €ircon webmail site right? Then the guru's at eircom have moved your mail into a different system and it will no longer be available from POP. Had war with them couple of years back, seems like they are still at this lark, no fix but to stop using them for any kind of mail, google is best. IMNSHO

It's working again now. Don't know what's happening. It wasn't working earlier with my wireless connection, but was with my o2 data connection through my phone, now it's working again on my wireless UTV connection:confused:

Hi folks can anybody help me with this.
    I have tried pop3.eircom, mail1.eircom and mail2.eircom account settings.
I tried ticking and unticking the authentication box but I simply cannot send any emails though I can recieve them? There arn't any other options as far as I can see.

    Any help much appreciated. Cheers.

Email uses different servers and protocol for sending and recieving, incoming is fine, what You posted there is the settings for incoming which needs leaving alone. You need to set your outgoing smtp server mail2.eircom.net with no authentication

Thanks Pog but where is the outgoing option please? Cheers.

Is it thunderbird? If so there should be an outgoing server smtp in settings at the bottom of the settings page.

Note, if you're not with Eircom your going to have to use the smtp server of the provider you're with, all providers block port 25 to protect against spam in case a pc gets infected and becomes a spambot

    Yes it is Thunderbird.

Aha Pog, that's what it is then. I'm using 02 now but I still use old Eircom email accounts.
Thanks a lot for your help. :)

Eircom mail is fussy about the smtp mail address

if using other isps u need to set the outgoing smtp address to that of the other isp.

example: eircom mail on upc isp

    smtp server is mail.upc.ie

That is generally the case with most SMTP servers. It helps to stop them being used by spammers.

Its got absolutely nothing to do with Eircom, all providers block the sending of email on port 25 and only allow sending of emails through the smtp servers they provide. This is the way they control the amount of spam coming from the ip addresses their network.
You only use Eircoms smtp server if they are your provider.
