"Florida Substitute Teacher Fired, Accused of Wizardry

A Florida teacher may have to pull an unemployment check out of his hat after performing magic in front of students, according to reports.

Jim Piculas said he made a toothpick disappear and reappear in front of students at the Rushe Middle School in Land 'O Lakes, Fla., Local6.com reported. He said he later got a call from the supervisor of teachers, saying he had been accused of wizardry.

"I get a call the middle of the day from head of supervisor of substitute teachers. He says, 'Jim, we have a huge issue. You can't take any more assignments. You need to come in right away,'" he told Local6.com.

Piculas said he’s concerned the incident may prevent him from being considered for future jobs."

    Those crazy merkins!

I am not sure if public drowning was used during the middle ages but if so I think it should be brought back for people like the "woman" * in that clip.

I would glady pay for a ticket, an overpriced hot dog and a warm beer to see that

    * After seeing the flesh mountain in that clip, I use the term "woman" in the loosest possible sense.

I don't understand this. Can someone explain to me what exactly he's being accused of?

It says wizadry. This is on dictionary.com as "the art, skill, or accomplishments of a wizard".

So he's getting sacked for being a wizard? Can we strap him to a rock, throw him in a lake and see if he floats?

I'm seriously confused... I'm lost .. I'm baffled by American people.

Perhaps wizardry comes under their banner of a religious practice? As far as I know teh rellijuns aren't allowed in American schools. Same as in France.

I think he was more like a Warlock.

Love the video...very typical of the "hillbillies" of the Southern US (very much including Florida).

    Wisardry falls under religious views.

    Who cares.

Who told on this guy anyway? You think it was one of the kids?...or an angry parent (perhaps that morbidly obese woman?) that ignorantly thinks this man is teaching works of the devil?

...and who took the complaint seriously?

...and why didn't the Supervisor of Substitute Teachers defend him?

...and why was he banned from getting new assignments without due process (as guaranteed in the US Constitution) ESPECIALLY (if) it's at a public institution?

As I see more and more, I now know why my parents sent me to private education when we moved here.

No Satan would be the ultimate wizard, Water and Wine pah! Satan can possess you, torture you, bend your mind to his will and make you suffer a fate more worse then death. He can manipulate fire and has risen to the surface more then once. Jesus, fish and chips are nice and all but i find a nice steak dinner to be more desirable

Anyway i find the women in that clip to be quite humourous, has anyone told her she looks like a freak of nature and a sin against god herself

Off-topic, but did anyone ever see that clip from the American Wife Swap with the devout christian. Now that woman was crazy.

Maybe they thought he was a Grand Wizard, the title given to the overall leader of the earliest form of the Ku Klux Klan?

Just read Fark, its even got its own Florida tag. It does defy belief that a class full of students and their supervisors can't tell the difference between sleight of hand and "witchcraft" of some sort in a first world country. It sounds like some of the news you'd hear coming out of some bass ackwards sub saharan country.

I've a good mind to go over there and cast the curse of the receding chin on them, where you can only be attracted to family members. Oops, never mind.

This is why those nutcases were driven out of Europe in the first place, I can't imagine medieval warlords would have much time for this kind of rot. Remember kids, stamp out a cult near you.

Oh Land O'Lakes. It's right up there with Okahumpka and Howie-in-the-Hills.
I'm a native Floridian and teachers at my schools performed acts of wizardry all the time... some even got drunk and gave us the keys to the driver's ed cars. They never got fired. +1 for tenure. :pac:

    Wow, Sherifu. Just No.

Supposedly the teacher was being done in for more than a magic toothpick..
A former substitute teacher in Land O' Lakes claims he was fired by the school district because he was "accused of wizardry."

Jim Piculas had been teaching as a substitute for the past year. He was working at Charles Rushe Middle School in late January when he performed a magic trick in class. That trick cost Piculas his job and maybe his livelihood, he says.

Piculas told WMNF today about the trick that led to his being fired by the Pasco County School District.

In the letter sent by Pat Sinclair, who manages the substitute teacher program in Pasco schools, "wizardry" was not the only accusation against Piculus. He was also charged with not following lesson plans and allowing students on computers even though they had been instructed not do so.

Piculus denies that, saying only two students were allow to go on computers to study FCAT spelling words.

He was also charged with allowing a fifth period student peer to be in charge.

Piculas says he can’t get before the Pasco County School Board, or with other officials responsible for hiring. He says they won‘t even meet with him. He says he’s written to Congressman Gus Bilirakis, who he says then contacted the state about the issue. Piculas says they wrote back to Bilirakis saying that education is a state, not federal issue, and therefore his request for information had no merit.

Gov. Charlie Crist’s office wrote back saying each school district’s office is responsible for their own hiring practices, and they could have no input, Piculas says.

Jim Piculas says he’s not sure what he’s going to do next.

WMNF talked to a spokeswoman for the Pasco County School District, Renalia DuBose. She did not want to go on the air, but said the magic trick was minor, and just one of many issues that that school officials had with Piculus. She said there were concerns about his classroom management and that the classes he taught were "very unruly."

look, just because Harry Potter was bashing in trolls since he was 12 doesnt mean he can run the class.
