I've noticed AVG don't offer their Anti-Spyware for free any more. Any recommendations for similar software with real-time protection?

I've used Windows Defender in the past, but it seems bloaty and I don't know if it's any good - I don't get much stuff on my own PC - this is for other people as they always come to me for help.

By "similar" I meant "also free" :)
    Any other alternatives?

It actually is free. On all the major download sites it says "Paid upgrade available" but you are under no obligation to buy it.
Free version entitles you to scanning, removal and updates. Pretty much everything except real-time protection but the freeware Spyware Blaster will do that for you too. :)

While MBAM is quite a good program and clearly comes highly recommended I'd still stick with SUPERantispyware. MBAM does seem to have a very high detection rate but it's scanning speed is awful. It took almost an hour to scan my drive, almost three times as long as SAS. However it is still a relative newbie to the antimalware scene so it can only grow and grow. I'm sure I'll be using more of it in the future.

The fast scan is faster than SAS and other programs

The full scan takes a while, but it is not needed.

Guarantee you that the fast scan will remove more than any programs full scan

    It is free

Oh right, I thought the download would just be a trial or something lame. Thanks!

I take it Ad-Aware and Spybot are no good any more?
