Have many people got the Short Game Bible and the Putting Bible? I'm just wondering how much stock people put in them.

I've never been that comfortable pitching other than to find a nice little swing thought now and then that worked temporarily. I've had a few lessons purely on it over the years but nothing that stuck really. I worked a lot on it last night and I'm still at a relative loss.

Are the Pelz books a good idea?

    Hi SS,

    I've got both Pelz books.
I found the Short Game Bible very good for my wedge play.
Both books are pretty indepth technically so whatever he recommends requires pretty major changes and a lot of practise.
I must say I didnt have either the time, facilities or inclination to put into practise everything from the books but I certainly took some pieces from both that have helped.
The short game bible is mainly about distance control from 100 yds in and teaches 3-4 swings with each of your wedges to give you reproducable distances.
I don't think I got as much out of the putting book but again it depends on much you work on it I guess - if you havent read it I'd recommend Rotellas putting book also, I found it to be excellent

Cheers, yeah I've read Putting Out of Your Mind a few times. Found it very good.

I've a decent amount of time and excellent facilities in my club so I'll give the SGB a shot.

    Thanks

BTW I downloaded (LEGALLY !) the Short Game Bible in pdf format from rapidshare or somewhere as far as I remember. Google it and see what you come up with.

    Have both of them.

Would highly recommend the short game one, especially for the first section on how 100yds in is really where your game can improve. Good technique stuff also but and as good a book i have read on the topic (and Ive read a lot) - but none approach Leadbetter's DVD on the short game.

The putting book is OK but am sceptical that once you have a basic knowledge of putting there is nothing to beat hour after hour of practice on good greens.

books are fantastic but very technical, i still havnt gotten through the putting one after x years!! better off going to the academy, much simpler when explained by the lads.

Thought the short game book was OK, but hated the putting one.
He mentions things like the dimple on the ball causing your putt to go off line - just the kind of thing you need to be thinking about when you are standing over a tricky 4 footer!!

Don't want to thread-jack but here's a couple of good putting books available for free if you are interested.

David Frost who was one of the best putters around in his day has a free e-book available here if you sign up to recieve e-mail alerts (you get sent a link to the pdf and can cancel the alerts as soon as you have downloaded the book!)

Geoff Mangum, a US putting guru has a more detailed one, there's a link here to a zip file that contains the book here...

How much did you pay for the legal download ?

I have both books - must admit I never managed to finish the Putting Bible (they are very chunky books), but loved the Short Game Bible and still have yardages inconspicuously labelled on all of my wedges to boot :o

the pitching system pelz uses eg. half seven to full finish, half nine to full finish etc. etc. is really good, it gets your hands working good through the ball and if you do it for a while you get these low little things with loads of fizzz

Borrowed my friends pelz short game bible book after reading this yesterday. Been having a lot of problems with my short chips/pitches of late so thought I'd give it a go.

Just spent nearly two hours practising the new technique there and must say I absolutely love it.... vast improvement. It could just be because I didn't previously have a system really, but either way, happy boy tonight.
