    Hi Guys,

I was looking for some advice/feedback from you all. I am going to be doing the cork marathon in 3 weeks time and I did 18 miles last friday in over 3 hours, shattered at the end but happy enough with the run. My training schedule has not been great as I play soccer with a team so my mid week runs have not been great over the last month but I have kept up my long run evrey week building up to the 18 miles last friday. I was thinking of doing a 20mile run on friday and then tapering down but is it too close to the marathon? Should I be tapering down at this stage?

    Cheers
    Corkfella.

2 weeks tapering is plenty for a marathon. Try to keep up the midweek runs in the next two weeks though. Short with a reasonable tempo is the proper way to taper.

as far as i remember my last long run (20 mile) was 3 weeks before the marathon followed by a taper of 12, 8, marathon on the following weekends. so as long as you following hunnymonsters advice above ,you should be grand

Agree with the above - 20 miler 3 weeks out is okay.

But it's time to consider quitting the football - too close to race to risk picking up an injury.
