I left a job last august to do a postgrad course.
I was on the higher tax band, so I'm owed a significant amount of income tax back.
I applied for it in January. Rang them about a month later and was told it was being processed. Went into the tax office a couple of weeks ago, they looked embarrassed said I was owed a lot back and they didn't know why it hadn't gone through but that they'd done it there while I was in the office.
    Still no tax back.
    wtf?

Perhaps very high refunds need to go through various stages of checking and approvals before someone is authorised to issue the cheque.

Keep ringing them to see what the story is.

I think it's also the case that a certain percentage of claims are selected at random for double-checking - a sort of quality control if you will. If this happens to yours it causes a big delay.

Keep on the case though and they might be able to push it through for you!

While the amount might be big to you it is probably small in terms of some of the refunds Revenue make. There is no reason for it to take so long. Once it is processed on the computer the cheque should issue within the week. It sounds as if someone just hasn't kept up with their work. Go into the office. Ask to see a supervisor.
