Just wondering if anybody has had to send their phone direct back to Sony??
What was the turn around, and did they just repair the phone or replace with a new one.

The model in question is the k850i

they do all warranty repairs for most manufacturers as far as i know. i don't see why they wouldn't replace a phone if that's what's required. give them a call and see:

Where did you buy it? If in a shop in town, they might still have a record of the purchase. Credit Card purchase? You could get a duplicate reciept for the purchase off the credit card company. Just a thought...

    Sadly, tis the law!

Just because it is not released in Ireland does not mean it has not been released abroad for a year.

A while back foneMenders did an exchange for me without a receipt, you could try them (They can check the IMEI sometimes.)

Sony Ericsson's Warranty states that a handset is covered under warranty a period of two years (one year on accessories) within the EEA on the condition you can provide a proof of purchase and have a valid serial number. They state quite clearly that they've the right to refuse handsets that aren't accompanied by the correct receipts. This happens for a number of reasons - handsets sold in other territories come with different gurantee's. Not quite sure about the phones but sony cameras in the USA used to only be covered for 90 days a few years ago. So basically they way they would look at it, they're protecting their resellers and network partners margins from imports. Secondly, it prevents "fell off the back of a truck bud" handsets getting serviced. Thirdly, the cynic in me says that its another way for companies to wriggle off the hook and not have to go to the expense repair something.

Most phone shops record the imei of a handset that was sold - if you go back to where it was purchased, chances are that they can print another. If you've bought from hongkong, second hand off ebay then tough luck its the chance you take. I know the risks involved when i do that. It blows up on you sometimes but thats life.

have just sent an email to fonemenders, hopefully they will be able to help me out!! cheers for the info!
It seems as though there has been a lot of issues with the same model of phone, and the firmware upgrade does nothing to help things.....

Hopefully one of the above mentioned companies can do something for me!

My brother bought one smi free from expansys. He's using it with vodafone, pay as you go. He had nothing but trouble with the phone. He took it to a vodafone shop and they sent it back to sony. It took a while to come back though, two or three weeks I think it was. The phones been working fine since.

    +1 for mprc.

My w810i was acting up well under the warrenty; rang them up and they said it would cost ~€80 altogether for it to be fixed. Would have expensed the cost to work anyway but after sending it off, it came back within a few days, pwo and with no charge.

    Delighted.
