Why aren't midges a vector of blood-borne diseases?

After being chomped on by midges yesterday evening, I wonder why midges don't pass on blood-borne diseases between humans? They can pass on disease between other animals like cattle and dogs - why not humans?

I'm not sure, but do midges actually suck blood? I was under the impression that they licked sweat?

No, they do suck blood (hence the cursed bites!). They're *attracted* to human sweat, though.

Oh they bite alright. I dunno how much blood they suck as they usually get squished by me long before they have a chance to.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
