hi im a single mother on rent allowance of 943 a month ,my rent is 1200.i cant get a job thats paid enough to cover the cost of childminders, food clothes ect because i am quite unskilled.i would love to go to college to learn the skills to get me out of this social welfare trap.is there any way i could go to college or do an adult education course without it affecting my rent.i have looked into this online but its all very complicated.just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice on this??thanks

if your on the rent allowence for 12 months, it should be fine, check with citizens advice or phone your welfare office to make sure

You could try enquiring at your local Social welfare office regarding VTOS and the Back to Educatin Schemes.

Definitely enquire about the Back to Education scheme.

You should be able to attend college, get your unemployment benefits and get a maintenance grant. Not sure about rent allowance but it's more than likely that this would not be affected either as your income will not be going up.
