    Hi,
I'm looking for some advice. I am trying to clean up my computer as lately I've found loads of broken shortcuts which I want to get rid of. These files, when clicked on will not open - They are in the Temporary Internet Files folder - I've tried deleting them, yet they still stay there - even after a restart. I've tried deleting internet history, cookies, temp files etc.. none of which work

I've also tried ccleaner which won't work for the files I mentioned above.

I've attached a pic below of the error I keep getting - when I click 'delete' I'm asked 'do I want to permanently delete this file' - click 'yes' - but I keep getting this....

Hopefully someone here can help. I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT : I'm using Vista by the way.

These files are not shortcuts but are files downloded to your computer during web sessions to speed up loading web pages. You normally delete them by emptying the internet browser cache as you have done, but not everything gets deleted because it may still be in use in a sub-folder. You can't open these files from Windows Explorer.

The sub-folders to the folder you are looking at, can be accessed by going to the address bar in Windows Explorer and adding \content.ie5 to the address.

You can then delete the folders: typically named something like: 1VYTJ674 etc.

This should get rid of most of the Internet Explorer Cache.

I'm not sure where you are getting the 'Low' subfolder from. It's just \Temporary Internet Files\Content.ie5 on mine.

None of these is a shortcut by any chance and the real folder moved elsewhere?

    I don't think so...

Is there any way of restoring the files and then deleting them?

I'd suggest running a disk check. It sound like files were deleted, but they remain in the directory. Faulty data sectors could be responsible.

    Perhaps running CCleaner might help?

Have you all the hidden, etc. thingies turned off in Windows Explorer?

Show hidden files and folders - on
    Hide extensions - off
Hide protected operating system files - off

The strange thing about the screen grabs you've posted is that the first one is headed 'Copy folder' (when you said you were deleting it) and the second one is 'Location is unavailable' which usually means that the file or folder is either being used, hasn't been properly deleted or you don't have administrative rights to it.

In Windows Explorer click the 'Organize' menu option and click 'Folder and Search Options'. Click the 'View' tab. The options are in the 'Advanced Settings' box
